Today marks the 19th anniversary of the attacks of September 11th 2001. We honor the 343 FDNY Firefighters, 8 EMTs and Paramedics, 23 New York City Police Officers, 37 Port Authority Police Officers, and over 2,000 civilians who all perished on that fateful day. Today and all days please remember to keep them and their families in your thoughts and prayers. We also honor all the brave men and women who have ultimately succumbed to 9/11 related sickness and those who still to ...this day are fighting the devastating effects from their time at ground zero. On September 11, 2001 the Islip Fire Department was one of the many Volunteer Fire Departments called to assist rescue efforts following the attack on World Trade Center. In the hours immediately following the attack, Engine 3-4-9 provided assistance at a FDNY firehouse on Greenpoint Avenue in Queens while the Tactical Rescue unit 3-4-14 was called to provide assistance at Ground Zero. It was with great relief that the Islip Fire Department was able to report the safe return of all of its Brother Firemen, especially those members that had been on-the-job in the city, at the time of the attacks. The first picture is Engine 3-4-9 standing by in the quarters of FDNY Engine 259. And the second picture is of Engine 3-4-9 along with many other neighboring departments in staging, awaiting deployment to New York City.
