This week we are celebrating one decade of commitment to getting NYC’s older population active and walking #TogetherInStride by increasing opportunities for adults of all ages get out, and get walking or running through #NYRRStriders. What began as one Harlem-based walking group comprised of 15 seniors has now grown to a city-wide program annually serving 2,500 runners and walkers, ages 50-100+ across all five boroughs. During COVID-19, our commitment has continued as we've introduced new digital and printed resources, in-place of in-person sessions, to encourage safe exercise from home. It is with great sadness we share the passing of our dear friend, Phillip Maronilla. For over four years, Phillip was part of the NYRR events team as one of our most trusted and reliable cyclists. He worked tirelessly to ensure course safety for all of our participants. Phillip was kindhearted, generous, and was always smiling and willing to lend a helping hand.
