Abbott Road Animal Hospital 30.09.2021

This is a public service announcement. All veterinary emergency clinics locally (including Cornell) are currently at capacity. The veterinary field is doing the best it can but is being crushed under the monumental demand it is facing. PLEASE take extra care with your pets and avoid situations that could expose them to illness or injury!

Winona wishes you all a very Happy Valentine's Day weekend! As you can see, she got a new catnip blanket from a not-so-secret admirer

Due to the volume of calls and appointments that our staff is handling due to COVID, we are instituting a new clinic policy regarding medication refills, effective immediately. Moving forward, we will require 24 hours notice for prescription refills. If a medication is needed immediately, an additional fee will be added for expedited same day prescription processing. Please plan accordingly and call us to refill your pet's medications BEFORE you run out. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation!

Due to the Bills playoff game, we have decided to close the clinic early today. In the event of a medical emergency with your pet after hours, please call the Orchard Park Veterinary Medical Center at (716) 662-6660. Stay safe and go Bills!

As many of you are aware, this weekend the Buffalo Bills will be playing the Indianapolis Colts in a home playoff game tomorrow, Saturday, January 9th. During a normal season when tailgating is allowed, the clinic would normally close to allow parking for such an event. However, current circumstances mean that the clinic will remain open for a normal shift despite a playoff game overlapping the end of our business day. This is a friendly reminder to any clients who will be coming to see us that we anticipate heavier than normal vehicle and pedestrian traffic in the hours surrounding the game, so please consider taking extra time to reach the clinic or perhaps an alternate route (i.e. Brompton off of McKinley or Southwestern to Sheldon). Please drive safely, celebrate responsibly, and as always, go Bills!!!

This is a post from a very dear friend Dr Galluch met in vet school. This is why we have gone to curbside service and are doing our best to minimize any exposure for our staff and clients. Please. Stay safe and vigilant. It will get better and we are all in this together. So I usually don’t like to put any of these types of things on FB, but I’m posting this as both informational and as a plea to keep taking this virus seriously because it does some weird t...hings. About 10 days I got what seemed like a regular cold. I could still smell and taste like normally. I kept close tabs on my temperature. When it went up I went for a covid test ( it’s normally 97.5 to 98 and it was up to 100F). and kept myself quarantined My temp did eventually go up around 102 F. I was watching stupid Christmas Netflix movies with the dogs last week when I suddenly realized that when I touched my left hand with my right hand my left hand felt like a corpse hand and not like it was attached to me and I was immediately alarmed. I thought I would try to do some gestures like pointing with my left hand and couldn’t do that. I tried to say something to the dogs and what came out was just a howling noise . I knew I was having a stroke By the time we got to the hospital I couldn’t feel or move my left arm at all, had very little feeling in my left leg and couldn’ move it. I didn’t even want to know what my face looks like. So I spent several days in ICU getting Multiple CT scans and MRI’s done as well as a barium swallow testwhich pointed out that I have silent aspiration when I swallow liquids. That has been the most challenging part So today I transferred to an acute inpatient at MedStar Good Samaritan. Hopefully I will improve daily. And now that I’ve gone public I will update on progress. At this time all is need good vibes my way I can I am replying to messages as best I can but it’s one-handed and my glasses don’t fit on my face now that my face is crooked so it’s a little challenging! LessonOne: wash your hands. And wear the damn mask. And tell other people to do it.I it sucks but this is not going away I was as careful as I could’ve been. I wore gloves to pump gas.,I didn’t socialize and 1 mever shopped. And chances are best that I got covid where I was most relaxed at work. Lesson Two: covid can do some really weird shit, like make your blood hyper coagulable and give you a stroke at 46. Take it seriously. CK Christy

Due to the dramatically increasing COVID rates locally and our upgrade to ORANGE ZONE status, we will be resuming a fully curbside model of service as of tomorrow - Friday, November 20th. When you arrive in our parking lot, you will see cones with numbered signs designating parking spaces for appointments, as well as a parking space specifically for curbside pickup of prescriptions. Once you have parked in one of these spots, please call the clinic to inform staff of your arr...ival as well as which parking spot you are in. One of our staff will bring you check-in paperwork to fill out as you wait for your appointment to begin. Once the doctor and technicians are ready, they will contact you to bring your pet to the front door for admission. No owners will be allowed in the building as long as we are an ORANGE/RED zone, unless directed by staff on a case by case basis. Our staff will communicate via phone or standing outside of your vehicle. Please wear a face mask at all times when you are interacting face to face with our staff members. Although we understand the worry and stress that curbside service can cause some of our clients/patients, our duty to promote public health as well as to keep our clients and staff safe is paramount. We would never want to have to close entirely due to COVID cases within the clinic. Please be patient as we adjust to our curbside routine - and we appreciate your understanding in these difficult times. See more
