Tuina massage originated in ancient China and is believed to be the oldest system of bodywork. It’s based on the theory that imbalances of qi the body’s vital life force or energy can cause blockages or imbalances that lead to symptoms such as pain and illness. Tuina massage stimulates the flow of qi to promote balance and harmony within the body. Does this sound like something you’d like to try? Contact me to schedule an appointment.
As some may be fasting today I thought this was perfect opportunity for this little bit of information. When most people think of acupuncture, they think of it in relation to pain related conditions. While acupuncture is wonderful for treating pain, we also treat other conditions. According to a new survey 74% of Americans are living with some sort of digestive symptom. That's almost of the population!! Chinese medicine is a great option to effectively treat both acute and chronic gastrointestinal issues! Using both acupuncture or herbs we can speed up metabolism, harmonize GI muscle contraction and relaxation, and rebalance stomach acid levels.
A common question I hear is, what do acupuncture needles feel like? The good news! The needles are so thin that they cause very little to no discomfort. Many patients report not feeling them go in at all! Once the needle is inserted, you may feel a mild or dull ache, slight tingling, warming, or an electric sensation. More good news! Those are all signs that the treatment is working.
Gua sha is a traditional Chinese healing method in which a trained professional uses a smooth-edged tool to stroke your skin while they press on it. This motion raises small, red, rash-like dots that show under your skin called petechiae. Research has shown its anti-inflammatory and improved mobility effects can help patients with lower back pain. It provides significant short-term pain relief when managing neck pain and shoulder pain. It can address perimenopausal symptoms. It even boosts the immune system! See it's not just about needles!
Ear seeds are tiny acupressure devices. They provide a type of auriculotherapy, a Traditional Chinese Medicine technique that focuses on areas in and around your ear. Ear seeds promote comfort and relaxation, and can be a great introduction to more advanced acupressure and acupuncture sessions. The most common reasons for ear seed therapy are pain, insomnia, substance abuse, and mental issues ranging from anxiety to grief.
Did you know?. . . Traditional Chinese medicine practitioners believe that the human body has more than 2,000 acupuncture points connected by pathways or meridians. These pathways create an energy flow (or qi) through the body that is responsible for overall health. Disruption of the energy flow can cause disease. By applying acupuncture to certain points, it is thought to improve the flow of qi, thereby improving health.
In the fast-paced world of innovation and technology, modern science is increasingly recognizing that the 3,000-year-old practice of acupuncture serves a valuable role in pain management, stress management, and overall wellness. Acupuncture is a unique technique for balancing the flow of energy, or life force (qi), through the pathways (or meridians) in your body. By inserting needles into specific points along these meridians, acupuncture can unblock those pathways to rebalance your energy flow. The Western view of acupuncture also recognizes its ability to boost the body’s endorphins and natural anti-inflammatory system.
