Science has clearly shown that literally any form of physical activity can help people with back pain, and there is no best exercise. Many people mistakenly b...elieve that specific exercises help back pain by activating small muscles, or improving posture, or stabilising the spine. However science has clearly shown this is not true. For example after retraining transverses abdominis many people find an improvement in their back pain. But scientists have found that these improvements are NOT related to changes in muscle activation or thickness. Instead, pain improves because of many general effects of exercise like reduced systemic inflammation, endorphin release, increased neuroplasticity, improved mental health, higher self-efficacy and greater expectation of recovery. Every form of exercise gives these general benefits equally, so every form of exercise is equally helpful for back pain. That’s why you don’t need special, complex exercises even for severe for back pain. Literally ANY form of exercise can be equally effective. The best exercise for back pain is the one you: * Enjoy * Have easy access to * Expect will help #exercisephysiologist #pilates #running #pilatesreformer #strengthtraining #keepitsimple #movementoptimist #breatheeducation #pilateselephants #sciencebitches

Day 100. I've finally made it. The last day of my challenge and It feels fantastic to be reaching the goal I set for myself. I am also feeling extremely grateful for all the support, encouragement, and engagement I've received by doing this. So before I continue I want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has followed along and helped me with this journey. This process and really helped me to grow both personally and professionally. It has made me think about differe...nt directions my career can move and more ways that I can better help people and on a personal level has shown me that if I set my mind to it I can stick with things that at times are difficult. Moving forward I plan to keep creating and sharing content and hopefully providing some value with it as I continue to grow and hone the craft. Over the next few days I might take a short break to figure out the direction I want to go but will certainly be back at it soon. Once again thank you so much everyone for the support.

Day 99. Pectineus is a flat muscle located in the upper portion of the thigh closer to the mid-line of the body. This muscle has a few responsibilities which are adducting the thigh or bringing it towards the mid-line, flexing the thigh, and laterally (outward) rotation of the thigh. ... One of the more common injuries for this muscle is groin strains which can have numerous causes such as kicking, skating, or pivoting. Certain activities have increased risk for this type of injury as well such as sprinting, soccer, hockey, martial arts, and gymnastics. Failing to warm up properly and not being conditioned can also increase the risk factors.

Day 98. After looking at the sartorius, gracilis, and semitendinosus muscles it is time to highlight the pes anserinus. This is an small area on the inside of the leg slightly below the knee where tendons from the 3 muscles join together and attach to the tibia. ... The reason this area is important is because it is a cause of chronic knee pain and weakness. Injury here is often connected to overuse with athletes and signs of injury are pain, swelling and or tenderness.

Day 97. Continuing from yesterdays post lets look at another muscle that is part of the pes anserinus. Gracilis is a muscle of the inner or medial thigh and connects on the pelvis and also runs to the tibia. It is responsible for adduction (taking away from mid-line) of the thigh and also flexing and medially (inward) rotating at the knee. ... Injury to this muscle can be very common with activities that do fast transitions of weight from leg to leg and due to its location in is also vulnerable to trauma and wear and tear injuries.

Introducing movement into a massage session is one of my favorite things to do. Here I use a knee to compress the gluteal muscles freeing my hands to work the back while also moving the leg shortening and lengthing the muscles allowing them to slowly soften. This can be a great relief for low back pain and addressing hip issues. ... Music: https://www.bensound.com

Range of motion is often a problem people have with their shoulders and often I find incorporating movement into my masage strokes helps getting a release. Here I move the arm to slowly sink into the tissue working deeper while at the same time lengthing muscles on the front of the shoulder. Music: https://www.bensound.com
