: After many years and many thousands of hours of meetings & negotiations, the Adirondack Railroad has finally begun corridor construction thanks to contracts recently let by New York State DOT. Countless hours have been invested in design & engineering by DOT bringing the project to the "ground-breaking" point. Tartaglia Railroad Services of Syracuse won the bid & delivered men, equipment, & supplies to the staging areas several weeks ago. An... estimated 5200 ties have already been installed with an estimated total of 90,000 planned for replacement. The plan calls for the rehabilitation of the line from Snow Junction to Tupper Lake station with considerable changes to the Tupper yard to include a rebuilt wye & passing tracks with a new platform. A repair/maintenance facility is also being planned for construction sometime in the future with renderings being available soon for our inspection. The entire project is estimated to cost something nudging $30,000,000 with a completion date of November 2021. In contrast, the planned conversion of rails to a trail from Tupper Lake to Lake Placid is not scheduled for completion until sometime in 2024 at an estimated cost roughly $11,000,000. After many years of seeming inaction, the reinvigoration of the travel corridor is truly taking shape. All along, the primary purpose of this project is to provide enhanced tourism & economic stimulus to the entire region.
