From the Archives: 100 Years Ago "ED. LEE CAMPE ERECTS MODERN DAIRY BARN Ed. Lee Campe, one of the enterprising summer residents of central Essex County, and a member of the Campe Corporation of 350 Broadway, New York City, has erected an up-to-the- minute dairy barn and silo just north of Elizabethtown. The barn was completed Saturday night and has many modern features, including cement floor, metal stanchions, and the humble bovine may even consume her provender by electric... light. His specialty is to be Jersey’s." The Adirondack Record-Elizabethtown Post, November 26, 1920 ------------------------------------------ Photographed is Ed Lee Campe in front of 165 Acre Ledgewood Farm in Elizabethtown, NY about ten years after this article was published. Today we celebrate all of those who served and sacrificed for this country in times of hostility and peace. Veteran’s Day was first observed in 1919 as Armistice Day after what was thought to be the war to end all wars. In Woodrow Wilson’s address Nov. 11, 1919, he spoke of a future full hope, harmony, fellowship, and freedom. He reminded the American people that, .. the war showed us the strength of great nations acting together for high purposes, and victory of arms fore...tells the enduring conquests which can be made in peace when nations act justly and in furtherance of the common interests of men. These words continue to be relevant and meaningful, reminding us to honor and recognize the values that our Veterans fought for with each passing day. Pictured left to right, top to bottom: 1.
