An easy way to help save natural resources is to recycle! Why recycle? Saves energy. We use fewer natural resources such as trees, water and minerals when we recycle. Reduces landfills. Less waste goes to landfills which then cuts the need for incinerators that pollute the air.... Prevents pollution. Extracting and processing raw materials, like plastic, can cause greenhouse gas emissions. Recycling helps reduce those. #Agmazing #AgEdAtTheFairgrounds #Agriculture #AgricultureEducation

Poop Power! The "number 2" from 15 cows is enough to power an average home for one day. Farmers are are doing their part. The cow poop is put into an anaerobic digester and heated to 100 degrees farenheight. At that point, bacteria breaks down the poop into raw biogas which is then sent to a generator to make clean, renewable electricty or renewable natural gas. #Agmazing #AgEdAtTheFairgrounds #Agriculture #AgricultureEducation

Did you know poop has superpowers? Farmers are harvesting to create energy for us. The poop is transported into an anaerobic digester, which heats it up to 100 degrees. Tiny microbes digest the poop and create methane. That raw biogas is harvested and turned into renewable energy. The remaining digested material can be used for fertilizer on the farm and even bedding for their animals. Why is this important? Agriculture contributes to about 10% of all Greenhouse Gas Emissio...ns. Since manure is about 60-65% methane, being able to recycle it into renewable gas keeps the methane out of the air and earth's atmosphere, creating less greenhouse gasses. #Agmazing #AgEdAtTheFairgrounds #Agriculture #AgricultureEducation

Cover crops are also called "green manure" and sometimes "living mulch." They are important as they help protect our natural resources. Cover crops are plants that are grown to suppress weeds, help build and improve soil, increase biodiversity, enhance water availability, slow erosion and control diseases and pests. Some cover crops are better than others, depending on what the primary objective is for adding them to your system. Examples of cover crops include: Grasses such... as rye, wheat or barley Brassicas such as turnips or radishes Legumes, such as fava beans and alfalfa #Agmazing #AgEdAtTheFairgrounds #Agriculture #AgricultureEducation
