4th/C-axis contouring and simultaneous 5-axis scroll milling using axis substitution. This demonstrates the process in which I developed a method to extract geometric data from basic standard *.jpeg/*.bmp images, project that construction geometry plus any text onto a 3D surface of a solid and generate toolpath data for chaining to allow multi-axis engraving of complex logos or images on curved compound surfaces. All in a very quick and efficient manner. This methodological a...pproach allows the in process logo or ID engraving and serialization without the need for additional processing such as laser etching or emboiss relief engraving. Reducing production time and expense. This is a simulation of a demo sequence of the process, the engraving is of a Jolly Roger logo which I pulled off google images (fair-use), and the text reads C-AXIS CONTOUR MILLING DEMO. then my signature in cursive font. This displays the capability of the resolution, complexity, and speed which is attainable. In addition I have developed a script which utilizes inline Boolean logic statements and macro variables (post processed into the final NC code) to allow for automatic alphanumeric serialization of the production run in any format. Overview: CAD/CAM tool-path chaining, Granular Methodization, In Process Verification and Backplotting/Simulation. Also true HiDef 3D rendering of completed Solid Model (SolidWorks, rendering utilizes PhotoWorks addon chook). All in the middle of a product Turn Key job. This particular part is very basic radial extrusion geometry and as such the toolpathing is very simple. Final Post processing was for a Okuma ACT10 3+2 NC Lathe w/ Main & Sub machining. NC sequence utilized ...1 part xfer/pick off to sub spindle for back side machining. Transfer sequence is modulated for rpm as well as phase to maintain angularity match between both main & sub spindle machining processes). --------------------------------- See other videos for more complex compound geometries, Mill/Turn NC operations involving true simultaneous gimbal motion 5-axis Surfacing & 4/5-axis polar & scroll milling using axis substitution method. Multi-axis/Multi-Spindle/Multi-Path Mill/Turn accomplished (Methodization) is for a 5+4, M+S Mori Seiki DMG NLX2500 Mill/Turn CNC lathe w/ LNS Quick-six Automatic hydrostaticly stabalized Hz-reducing Bar Feeder with 16ct barstock chain magazine. 6' length decreases bar length hz-vibration, aided by the hydrostatic bearing formed with the flow of high VG lubricant at the single long length quick change guide tube. Similarly, for machining of long length parts such as control/piston rods, a 12'6"(149.5") length capable LNS Sprint S2 hydrodynamicly stabalized at the guide bearing blocks.(flowing pressurized volume of high VG lubricant forms hydraulic bearing and vibration/harmonic cushion which allows high RPM machining with greatly reduced bar length harmonic vibration. -C.Boyd
