"Democrats' edge over the GOP in the House of Representatives could shrink from 35 seats to 17 once all the votes are counted. On a Thursday caucus conference call, moderate Rep. Abigail Spanberger, D-Va., who holds a narrow lead in her district, denounced her colleagues for ruining the election by pushing for socialism and defunding the police, Politico reported. Progressive Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York tweeted that poor digital outreach caused the setback. She pushed for even more hard-left messaging."
Because there are many close races this year at multiple levels of government, and because many mailed-in ballots have yet to be counted, it will take some time before New Yorkers know who prevailed on Election Day. In the words of former State Sen. Martin Connor, "'the watch word for this election is patience.'"
This week's edition of our podcast is posted. Regarding the recent election, we're in a mostly waiting game as we await results at almost every level from the Presidential race down to local State Supreme Court judges. Nevertheless, the political speculation for future races is already underwayand in that speculation we’re seeing an increasing conversation around the rise of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.... Next, we'll take a look at political affiliations in New York. We have new numbers and while they're encouraging ones for the Democrat Party, they also demonstrate that the GOP has a lot of work to do if it ever wants to catch up to the Democratic Party. Then, we'll discuss the facts regarding what we call family formationa mom and dad raising their kids together. Finally, November is National Adoption Month. We need to note that and celebrate adoptive families.
Adoption gives Christian believers an opportunity to follow the Lord's commands to love our neighbors (Mark 12:31) and to "defend the poor and fatherless [and] do justice to the afflicted and needy" (Psalm 82:3). From a pro-life perspective, the availability of adoption is crucially important; it offers women facing crisis pregnancies a life-affirming alternative to abortion.
If a court-packing scheme becomes a real possibility in 2021, Christians and conservatives throughout New York must be ready to lobby their respective members of Congress in opposition to it.
NYCF continues to call upon New York government to refrain from trampling upon religious liberty as it seeks to protect the public from another mass COVID-19 outbreak. We also continue to call upon Christians and churches to do our part to protect ourselves, our families, and our neighbors from this virus.
Presidential update: MI and WI have been called for VP Biden. President Trump is expected to win AK, but it hasn't been called. The President must win GA, NC, NV, and PA to win re-election; he leads in GA, NC, and PA.
Check out City & State New York's summary of the status of key state legislative races. While these races are too close to call, CSNY will offer updates at the link below. At this point, State Senate Democrats appear likely to lose multiple seats.
While the national election is garnering much attention, we shouldn't lose sight of this in regard to New York politics. "Republicans held narrow leads in 11 of the 16 state Senate races expected to be competitive this cycle, casting a shadow on Democrats' hopes of taking a veto-proof majority in the chamber."
Jason McGuire, NYCF's Executive Director, will be offering election night updates and political analysis for FLN until about midnight tonight.
"Though the outcomes of some state and congressional races could be determined before every single vote is counted, don’t expect any exciting news on Tuesday."
