The new year harkens in the one of the best National Days! National Spaghetti Day! Beech-Nut Packing Co. developed and sold macaroni products in the 1920s and 1930s. The product shown here was cooked canned pasta in a red sauce. Of course one must admire the fancy serving dishes the advertisers suggested should be used. #NationalSpaghettiDay

By request - here is a color image of our painting Canajoharie about 1780 by Edward Buyck. Artist Edward Buyck spent many years living in central New York, and became known in the area for his paintings depicting the American Revolution. It was natural then, in 1929, for Bartlett Arkell to commission Buyck, to create two paintings to celebrate the early pioneers and the 150th anniversary of the United States. In this particular painting Buyck paid attention to loca...l geography and history- included in this painting is Reuff's Tavern, the Frey House, and the Van Alstyne House. The Arkell Museum's second painting by Buyck is of a similar vantage point, and depicts the mustering of troops for the Clinton-Sullivan Campaign of 1779.
