Australian scientists with CSIRO have taken us another step closer to producing an effective vaccine for COVID-19. Most vaccines under development are modelled on the original ‘D-strain’ of SARS-CoV-2, which has evolved to the globally dominant ‘G-strain’. There were fears that vaccines under development might not work as well on the new strain, however, researchers found the vaccine candidates are still effective. Dr S.S. Vasan, CSIRO’s Dangerous Pathogens Team Le...ader and the senior author of the paper, said this is good news for the hundreds of vaccines in development around the world.
