Our very first official but accidental partner retreat was to Arcosanti in New Mexico. We finished up a meeting with a client in Santa Fe and were meant to jump a plane right after. Instead, we bought a few bottles of wine and roamed the desert for a week dreaming about designing the city of the future. #earlydays #goodtimes

These last few weeks have been heartbreaking and difficult, but they have also been powerful and eye-opening. We took a pause to read, watch, listen, share, march - and plan. We want to be proponents for real, genuine change within our studio and within our community - not just while these hashtags are trending, but always. Here are just a few of the initial steps we’re taking: *A diversity task force to develop strategies for recruitment, education, and community engageme...nt *New educational programs and tools to address, combat, and eradicate unconscious bias *Sponsorship of employees looking to join organizations such as NOMA (National Organization of Minority Architects) *Partnerships with educational programs and organizations to create externships/apprenticeships for young creatives of color to gain experience and exposure to the hospitality and design industries In this time of momentous change (like a global pandemic upending our industry and our way of life) and real progress (like today’s landmark Supreme Court ruling on the Civil Rights Act of 1964 protecting gay and transgender workers), we are humbled and inspired by the incredible momentum we are seeing and feeling in our feeds and on our streets, and we’re committed to doing our part to be better allies for the Black community and to be champions for diversity. #blacklivesmatter #pride #hospitalityeverywhere See more
Black. Lives. Matter. Full stop. Like many of you, we have been struggling to put into words our feelings of sadness, anger, frustration, and despair over the systemic, institutional racism that underpins so much of our society. We stand in proud solidarity with our black brothers and sisters, and we will not stand for the brutal injustices they face daily at the hands of a broken system. To our black friends, partners, employees, collaborators, and neighbors - we hear you. W...e see you. We stand with you. As designers, architects, strategists, and creatives born from and rooted in hospitality, our very purpose lies in bringing people together, forging connections, and quite simply, taking care of each other. We are committed now more than ever to do just that. We have a lot of work ahead of us, a lot of thinking and reflection to do as a company and as individuals, and we are prepared to do so. But commitments are just hollow sentiments if not backed by real actions. As a start, we plan to donate to Innocence Project, NAACP Legal Defense Fund and The Bail Project. Swipe for additional opportunities to learn, support, and advocate. We are also working on ways we as a company can be more actively educated and engaged in order to effect real, positive change for the black community. Stay tuned as we develop these ideas further. Change will not come easily, nor will it come tomorrow. But if we don’t all do our part, change will never happen. We hope you’ll share, spread the word, and join us in these efforts. Be well, stay safe, and let’s take care of each other. #blacklivesmatter #nojusticenopeace #hospitalityeverywhere
