Last week I received and read Redactions Issue 24 Tribute to William Heyen, editor Tom Holmes (Bill turns 80 this Sunday, 11/1/2020). Bill and several of the contributors Kitty Jospé, Karla Linn Merrifield, Colleen Powderly, and John Roche are members of the group Just Poets which has readings here at the store, in person and via electronic meetings. The image of Bill was taken by another Just Poet, Roy Hartwell Bent. There are also other Rochester familiars Grant Holcomb a...nd Ralph Black, as well as, others who have a Rochester/Brockport connection, but who currently live elsewhere including Tom and his collaborator for this publication, Richard Deming. Copies of this publication can be obtained by visiting www.etsy.com/shop/redactionspoetry, or writing a check for $15 made out to Tom Holmes and sent to Redactions 182 Nantucket Dr. Apt. Uc Clarksville TN 37040, or check out the web site at www.redactions.com. See more

So, I s as I’d was going to do multiple posts today. Here is my second one. Last Sunday, 9/27/20, began banned books week. This week I will be posting my homage to Banned Books-I meant to do one a day, but life got in the way till now. So I am catching with several images, one for each dss as y that I have missed, and today’s. I had several pictures for Sunday to introduce the week including a mask, a cup and the Bible-yes it is a banned book; Monday would have been Jay Asher’s Thirteen Reasons Why; Tuesday Margaret Atwood’s, Handmaid’s Tale; and today’s Khaled Hosseini’s The Kite Runner.

Typically, except for last year, this would be a day for setting up for the Rochester Antiquarian Book Fair. This year the sale was cancelled to protect our customers from the health concerns currently facing our country. So, instead of choosing, packing, and unpacking books for the Fair, I decided to take some pictures of Before Your Quiet Eyes in its current configuration. Yes, I am continuing to rearrange books and the store as time goes on to make it, hopefully, more user friendly. Please take my visually tour of the store and if you have questions please feel free to contact me.

The timeline for the end of submissions to Poems Inspired by the Movies is quickly coming to a close, the deadline is September 30th. Please see below. Also please feel free to share this post! Call for Submissions: Poems Inspired by the Movies Deadline September 30th... How have movies shaped your imagination, made you dream or disturbed your sleep? From cartoons to the classics of decades past to ground-breaking movies of recent years, what role do movies have in our culture? Gene Wilder in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, his eyes by turns wild, knowing, or brimming with hope. James Dean’s amazing eyebrows fully animated with inner turmoil! Marylyn Monroe’s neat little nose, perched above lips that trembled, or sneered, or were ready to be kissed...sometimes all at once. I recently received the following Call for Submissions. I would encourage anyone interested in writing poems about movies, to submit 1-3 poems for consideration in this endeavor. Ken Call For Submissions: Poems Inspired By The Movies... From Saturday morning cartoons to the great movies of decades past, how have the movies shaped you? What scene moved you to tears, or inspired you to go back out into the world, determined to change it? What movie made you dream or disturbed your sleep? For me, it was their faces on the screen, twenty feet high: an acre of tender real estate between the sweep of Gene Tierney’s lashes and the arch of her narrow, expressive brow in Laura. Send us poems saturated with color or in classic black and white; show us the grand panorama or close us in a dreary room. Give us heroes, anti-heroes or ordinary folk. We want poems that leave behind the indelible image, the same as a rare film; poems with a quality of wonder, drama, or stillness that celebrates this art form. Send your movie poetry to [email protected] for possible inclusion in a new anthology of poetry about the movies. Deadline is September 30th. Please note the guidelines for blind submissions below. Two pieces of good news, at least I think they are!! One is the store Before Your Quiet Eyes has officially re-openedThe hours for the store will be as they were previously, Wednesday through Saturday, inclusive, 11am till 6 pm. The store has gone through a massive transformation, and I hope you come in to see the changes. Please be aware that I am requiring face masks, and I am requesting everyone use the hand sanitizer that is outside the door to the store prior to e...ntering the store. Thank you for your anticipated compliance. The other piece of news is that the second book, Once For The Broken Hearted, in the Before Your Quiet Eyes Holograph series is now completed and available. Thank you to Adam Sinesiou, the author, William Heyen, the cover artist, and Nate Pritts for your willingness to work with me and making this book become a reality. Copies of the book are available here at the store and on Amazon, but the signed, limited edition, with a poem in holograph is only available at the store. Look forward to seeing all of you!
