Day 19 From the Archives, 21daysinmyartworld ~ A First oil on canvas, 36x24 ~ First oil painting while in art school at the Corcoran in Washington DC in Sept 2000. With direction from my teacher who painted some of the flower in the bottom left... it’s always bugged me that I let him paint on my canvas. A First cuz it was my first painting class and it’s a scene from a trip I took to India right after I quit my corporate real estate job and started art school. That was 20 years ago. Young, pretty fearless & oh clueless that I’d go broke doing art. Wouldn’t change a thing!

Day 18, Celebrate 21daysinmyartworld ~Ann Cross~ Xxoo My celebration is about Ann Cross. I think about her everyday and just had the privilege to share about her on the Caz Arts annual meeting. 2 minutes isn’t enough time to talk about what a cool, fun, special person she was or what she meant to me... but here’s a snippet of what I said. Ann Cross (1941-2020) Artist, art appreciator, Caz Library gallery /director almost 20 years, Winterfest volunteer extraordinaire, ded...icated Caz Watercolor society member... gifted therapist, person of service, devoted community member & very good friend. I’ve known Ann since the 80’s... the cool mom of three really cool daughters, Mrs. Cross, married to Mr Rooney and who lived in that equally cool house with beautiful gardens on Willow Place. It was when I moved back to Cazenovia in 2006 that I got to know Ann - as a fellow artist, a confidant, someone I respected & admired. When I think of Ann, I think fun, funny, thoughtful, easygoing, smart, talented, way ahead of her time, endlessly cool. So cool! Positive, unassuming, a great storyteller, heart of gold and she loved to laugh. Ann made everyone feel like she was their biggest fan. At the library events, we could do no wrong. We were smart. We were the best. She believed in all of us. And she was that way with me in a way no one else could be. I miss Ann like crazy and my heart goes out to her family, friends and all who she touched, helped, inspired, loved & made laugh. I’d like to consider myself her biggest fan. I have a feeling there’s a lot of competition. Celebrating Ann! Xxoo See more

Day 16 Largest Painting #21daysinmyartworld Voila! 48x60, oils from 2005. After years of painting murals in kids’ rooms, the only thing I knew was how to paint big. Barns, Butterscotch (best cat ever) and fruit. Nothing’s changed except I’ve added Water & Waves and lots of small stuff since big isn’t practical. Well.. unless you know of someplace cool that wants big paintings. A restaurant, shop, whatever. I’m in. Love painting big!

Day 16 Smallest Painting #21daysinmyartworld ~ Warning: Binge Painting Post. Cuz I went on a 4x4 painting binge. Someone told me that in order to get better painting big, paint small. So I did and I did about 50 of them. Still do smalls but prefer painting big! The little barn guys are signed Furf which was one of my nicknames when I was little. . My mom called me Fred. And Speedy Gonzales.

Day 15 Titles 21daysinmyartworld ~ Today’s prompt is about naming paintings. Most of my titles are fairly straightforward or a bit of a play on words. Straightforward: More Waves Crazy Waves. Last Waves etc. For the two paintings in this post: It’s All Okay (Right) and It’s All Right (Left) The big one was the last left-handed painting I was doing for a show and was pretty stressed up until that point. Hence It’s All Right (Left). Get it? Plus I was thinking about my sister when I was painting it and everything truly is alright.
