This is so important. All birds, chicks, reptiles and mammals are to be banned from being shipped within, to or from NY in Bill A04611. This is the petition to the committee members to vote "No." There are already copious regulations and certifications that are in place. This is a knee jerk reaction to Covid 19. Please take a minute and sign the petition. Personally, this means no meat chickens or turkeys, or pullet chicks from a Hatchery, because they all have to be shipped.... And ALL local farms raising pastured meat chickens would no longer be able to get their chicks! That would be disaster for so many local farms, not to mention that loyal customers will not be able to buy locally raised chicken or turkey! Yes, shipping delays in 2020 did cause many losses of shipped chicks, but the answer is to fix the issue not eliminate the option to ship completely! This also means no new backyard chickens, ducks, geese, lizards or mammals for anyone in NY. Yes, I can still hatch out chickens from my flock and sell them, raise pullets and process the roosters for meat. But roosters take 3x longer to reach market weight and with less meat.

Eggs will be soon available at the farm store, once they’re candled & cleaned. Hopefully now I’ll can get the chickens to lay where they’re supposed to!

It’s a boy! Yesterday’s surprise lamb is thriving and keeping up with mama who’s very attentive and a great first time mama! He’s all black except for two little spots on the top of his head. He’s just so adorable! . . . #newlamb #blacklamb #hairsheep @ Betty Acres Farm

The farm animals are doing well, just haven’t had anything particularly special to share lately. Other than the geese have turned very territorial and unfortuna...tely have chased or bitten a few visitors who have gotten out of their vehicle before I could shoo away the geese. From what I’ve learned, the ganders tend to be more aggressive during breeding season and they start bonding over the winter. But they respect me and while they make a lot of noise and warning me to not get close, they don’t dare bite me! Apparently they’ve heard that I know how to kill and pluck geese. The sheep and goats are happy and now greet me when I come into the barn to feed them. The ewe lamb is getting huge and seems to be almost weaned already! Cookies and Cream the pregnant ewe is getting a bigger belly day by day, though she probably has awhile yet before giving birth. Harry’s splint came off yesterday and bone appears to be healed, but he’s still not putting weight on it. But hey, he doesn’t seem to be fazed and gets around great as a 3-legged sheep! The chickens started laying again a little more, but then dropped off again, maybe due to the cold. Today was my second intermittent fasting day, and between sleeping 8.5 hours, farm chores and burning boxes and sawdust paper bags, I ended up fasting for 19 hours!! But I had plenty of energy (due to burning fat), not shaky, alert and clear headed! I broke my fast with #thepinkdrink and a big Mexican-themed salad & bacon around 3pm. . . . #lifeonthefarm #geese #ducks #chickens #turkeys #sheep #goats #horse #winteronthefarm #territorialgeese #bettyacresfarm #paradiseindisguisefarm #intermittentfasting @ Betty Acres Farm See more
