In the US, legislators need to stop taking public opinion polls and instead listen to those who know: researchers (SAMHSA, NIDA, ATTC, etc.), people in recovery, and those who work in the field of addictions. I see public discourse being about a simple legal vs illegal approach to drugs when decriminalization is better. Decriminalization offers treatment, fights stigma, and saves lives. Read and let us know what you think...

A little humor from MARS... Enjoy a silly, candy-filled Halloween!

Pictured here are Walter Ginter and Suzanne Hall-Westcott, meeting in Haiphong with Vietnamese leadership. There are now MARS Projects in Haiphong, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon), and two small towns near Hoa Binh. We also now have a cadre of Vietnamese MARS trainers who have completed a TOT (Training of Trainers) and have practiced delivering the Beyond MARS training. Their goal is to replicate the MARS model throughout Vietnam. The MARS model of peer support and education creates a recovery community that turns MAT into MAR (medication-assisted treatment into medication-assisted recovery).

There were lots of planning meetings... and there was incredible support from SAMHSA and the UNODC... that made it possible for us to implement MARS Projects across Vietnam.

The audio on this recording isn't great... but it's great that we've had Walter's story told at the White House!
