The BPBP shelf is brimming with political philosophy, practical knowledge, fantasy, mystery, history, and more, and now we need YOU to help us send these books to their requesters. _ ABOUT the BEACON PRISON BOOKS PROJECT: in contrast to the many other wonderful prison book drive programs, our initiative ...grew out of the relationships we had already developed via the Beacon Prison Rides Project. We use a postcard system to field specific requests from incarcerated people. Binnacle customers then have the opportunity to purchase a particular title for a particular individual and we send it along. Part of the initial spirit of this project was to encourage people to come into the shop to select the book they would like to send and to also send handwritten notes on postcards with the requested book. While we continue to do that, we’re happy to also offer the option to sponsor from afar, for those who can’t or don’t want to come through the shop right now.
