LISTEN When I ask you to listen to me and you start giving advise, you have not done what I asked.... When I ask you to listen to me and you begin to tell me that I shouldn't feel that way, you are trampling on my feelings. When I ask you to listen to me and you feel you have to do something to solve my problems, you have failed me, strange as that may seem. Perhaps that's why prayer works for some people, Because God is mute and he doesn't offer advice or try to fix things. He just listens and trusts you to work it out for yourself. So please, just listen and hear me. And if you want to talk, wait a few minutes for your turn and I promise I'll listen to you.

Father Patrick Fitzgerald, M.Afr. died June 26, 2019. Born in Portsmouth, England, on July 22, 1925, his father died when he was a young child and his only brother, Ted, a second lieutenant in the British Army, was killed in Normandy in 1944. Father Pat entered the Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers) and was ordained a priest on May 31, 1951. Much of Father's missionary activity was spent in Africa ministering to the priests and sisters who served there. In addition, in hi...s 68 years of priesthood, he was the rector of both a major and a minor seminary, taught Latin and English literature, among other subjects, and worked in various parishes in the London area. Coming to the United States on and off for the past 20 years, Father Pat served in Mary Immaculate parish in Bellport and Immaculate Conception parish in Westhampton Beach. Father brought the Fair Trade Movement to Long Island, and was a very concerned and dedicated advocate for the unborn. Father volunteered in the palliative care department at Southampton Hospital, and finally, the cause of the canonization of Father Vincent Capodanno, the young Navy chaplain who was killed during the Vietnam War, was of great concern to Father Pat. He is survived by a cousin, Trish Bailey, and her daughters, Frances and Sara, and husband George; and three young cousins. A wake was held at the Church of the Immaculate Conception on Friday, July 5, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A funeral was held at the church on Saturday, July 6, at 10 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the food pantry at Immaculate Conception Parish, the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Mary Immaculate Parish, Sobornost For The World (Fair Trade), Birthright of Peconic, or the Father Vincent Capodanno Guild.

Things you can do to help Birthright: 1. Providing emotional support and practical help to women is always the first priority of Birthright volunteers. 2. We ha...ve an ongoing need for those who can sort and distribute maternity and baby clothes. 3. Birthright believes that parents (and their babies) deserve a better chance. Serving on our mentoring pro- gram provides friendship, education, and experiences to support mothers in need as they face their future. 4. We are looking for people willing to help with administrative work in the Birthright office - such as helping with mailings and other office work. 5. We need volunteers to make presentations to school and community groups about Birthright and its services. 6. Do you enjoy shopping? We need people who would be willing to bargain hunt for baby needs and office sup- plies. We also need stores who would be willing to give Birthright a discount on purchases. 7. We always need donations of diapers, wipes, and baby clothes (up to size 24 months). If you feel you could be a Birthright volunteer, please call Phyllis at 631-728-8900 or e-mail [email protected].
