Happy Sunday FB. I am rejoicing in the aftermath of our successful show on Friday Sept. 25th inside Marcus Garvey Park! As Lois Thompson said, we made it happen. That’s what we call resiliency and gumption!!! Thank you to Rashad Bashir and the Harlem Comedy Coalition for coming through with the light and sound system. It made a big difference. The show was purely a show of talent and raw emotions. Meka J. Woods opened up the show followed by Melissa Irish Dara Jemmott (surpri...se guest) Nicoise Waring dropped another amazing poem that even she began to blush at the eroticism and we all screamed for her to finish so we can finish what followed that was everyone’s favorite Cosmic Comedy Diva Onika McLean who reeled us in with her charm and DAMPness! You had to be there!! When you want your show to EXPLODE, you must bring in D.C.’s own Franqi French who lit that park up! She had the local park inhabitants coming up to see what all the funny was!!! From beginning to the end, we were on a journey and to have Franqi headlining was the ultimate way to end our night!!! Thank you to our photographers who will be sending me there pics in a few but enjoy these taken by Lois, Rashad and me. Also, I believe what made our show so special is the people who showed up and donated. Not only did they roll with us as our accommodations were a bit compromised, they stayed and enjoyed a great night of hilarity! Special shout out to the comedians who came out and rocked with us. We appreciate the support and let’s keep that momentum going as we find new ways to bring our talent to the masses. The Black Women in Comedy showcase was a huge success and I am so very thankful to The Tiny Cupboard Matt Rosenblum for the hospitality! The location is everything and the weather was perfect for a rooftop comedy show! The Black Women in Comedy lineup was a dream team of heavy hitters.... Hollie Harper setting the tone, Venessa V Lince bringing the social awareness to the fore, while Dara Jemmott had them enraptured with her comedic buoyancy. It was an honor to witness Rita B...rent delivering a stellar performance in a short time with Lois Thompson ending the night with her unabashed humor...she was on and I hated that we had to end so soon but what a night to get the juices flowing again!! Some of us have not performed since March 2020 when quarantining was happening! This was a huge deal and I want to thank my Day 1’s for always coming out to support even to a death defy rooftop entryway (I had no idea ) Syd Thomas Paul Williams Leah Reinhardt Cylieah Tate & Co., along with comedians who showed us love Dave Lester, Mark Gregory, Onika McClean, Will Greene, Chaundra Daniels Ibrahim Khalif, Nya Yea...and many more.
