We often send our guest off on some great adventures, and one of them is to visit the old abandoned Tahawus Mining Village or to hike in to Marcy from that village parking lot. Here is a great article about the history of the old mining village. So we have some exciting news... The Blue Ridge Motel was just notified by Booking.com that we have been recognized for our efforts at offering outstanding hospitality in 2020 and we have been honored with a 2021 Traveller Review Award. When I decided last summer to start my own hospitality company and purchase the Blue Ridge Motel, I was walking in to uncharted territory (for me)! However, I knew I wanted to own my own business, and I did know what I would expect if I was to visit a motel or hotel. In addition, I knew I wanted to salvage this iconic Adirondack motel that was built in the 1950's. With the support of some amazing contractors, vendors, friends and family, we turned on the OPEN sign on July 3rd, 2020 and started taking guest. We went from 3 rooms rented on the 3rd, to being sold out on the 4th and 5th and many many nights after that. We had a lot of highs and lows along the way, but we pulled it off and we can only take a sliver of the credit. Our amazing staff, Rännei Rambow, Rai Talarico, Danielle Barney, Vicki Venner-Belleville, and Carlena Russell Barrows worked tirelessly to guarantee that everyone of our guest had clean safe accommodations which in turn gave the guest an exceptional stay with us. There are not enough words to show how appreciative we are of all the girls hard work. We also are very thankful for all the amazing reviews that each and everyone of our guest took the time to do this last year! The reviews you have given us bring warmth to our hearts and fuels our desire to continue to renovate the next 9 rooms, finish our community room, and continue to work on landscaping and providing family oriented outdoor activities for everyone. Had some guests stop by today while traveling the trail (trail crosses our front yard) headed to the Paradox Brewery one mile up the road! They decided to stop for a photo op and surprise me... Unfortunately we had ran some errands and missed them, but thank you for this beautiful photo! Yahoo... we have snow... this weekend there were many snowmobilers out and about on the trails. Many of you come to the Adirondacks because of it's rich history. We have many guest that love to hike and many go in to the high peaks from the Elk Lake Trails or the Newcomb area. If you have, you are familiar with the abandoned old mining village called Tahawus, NY. My friend, Angela Nolan found this amazing video from 1954 today about the McIntyre Mine that was owned by National Lead in Tahawus. The people that lived in the abandoned mining village worked at this mine in this film. Hope you enjoy this little tid bit of history on this cold Saturday afternoon. Snow is coming...get those sled ready folks... the snowmobile trail passes right across our front yard and we have plenty of warm rooms available for your relaxation. Continental breakfast in the am is included.

Well we got some more snow and hopefully this will stay as the temps are staying low. Unfortunately no more snow in sight till next Friday, but we will pray that more comes sooner. We are starting to see some snowmobilers sled by! Yipee...

Look at that beautiful Salmon that was caught on Schroon Lake this week... Fishing is on folks!

One of our many blessings while we were remodeling was to have Mr. Jordan DeZalia work for us helping my husband with our remodeling. No matter what kind of hair brain idea we came up with to improve the quality and looks of the motel, Jordan took each project on with gusto. If he didn't know what I was talking about or how to do it, I would send him home with one assignment...You Tube it!! We really missed him in June when he left us to go to work for a large road construc...tion crew and then to college in September. We were very excited when he called and asked if he could come and work during his Christmas break at home. He tackled quiet a few projects this week, but the one that was our favorite...the removal and replacement of the ole' window in the employee bathroom by the office. The window was from the original building and looked out in to the big new room which will soon become a break room for employees. If someone was in the break room area you had to make sure the shade was pulled completely before sitting your butt down on the toilet in the bathroom. Not only did Jordan remove the window but he framed it in, enclosed the hole with some tongue and groove boards, re sheet rocked in the break room and for some fun he built shelves in the bathroom so we can decorate it a bit and have a place for spare toilet paper and etc. Thank you Jordan for always taking that extra step and making sure everything you do is 150%.
