I remember a simpler time. A time when you checked in once a day with your dispatcher and once with family. A time when the CB radio, and face to face was the o...nly communication you had. A time when you had trust in your relationship, your friendships, and the driver sitting next to you at the diner counter. I remember a time with no GPS. You had nothing but an atlas, and the word of a fellow trucker that, "had been to that spot before." You had to have knowledge, skill, strength, and experience behind you to do the job. The life line was the CB, or calling your dad from a payphone for help because he had been everywhere in the country.....twice! Just had to make sure you had enough quarters to finish the call. There was no texting. Just a pen and pad. This career was not a job, it was a lifestyle. You didn't do it for the paycheck. You did it for the proud status of being a TRUCKER. You did if for the speed, the chrome, the chicken lights, and the camaraderie. You did it to see AMERICA. You did it because you were proud. Trucking isn't what it use to be. It's cell phones, GPS, piss bottles, sweat pants, and sandles. It's junk equipment and lack of pride. It's cheap freight, back stabbing, and being an outcast. It's lack of experience, lack of knowledge, and lack of caring. This post is a THANK YOU. THANK YOU to those who still do this for the love of it. THANK YOU, to those who do it with pride. THANK YOU to those who paved the way for us. THANK YOU to those who still bleed diesel. THANK YOU to those who keep fighting the good fight. 2001 Peterbilt 379 C15 cat with cat warranty until 2-18-21. 18 speed trans, 2 line wet line,46k air trac. We are the second owners of this truck we bought it in... July of 2004 with 290,000mi on it. The ecm mileage is 1,280,000. We have all the maintenance records for that 990,000 miles.
