This year more than ever it’s vital that we properly, and frequently, wash our hands to stop the transmission of harmful germs. Let’s all do our part to keep each other healthy. The CDC recommends following these five steps when washing our hands: 1. Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap, and apply soap.... 2. Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails. 3. Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the Happy Birthday song from beginning to end twice. 4. Rinse your hands well under clean, running water. 5. Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry them. #NationalHandwashingAwarenessWeek #BreastlinkNY

According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is sometimes found after symptoms appear, but many women with breast cancer have no symptoms. This is why regular breast cancer screening is so important. Typically, breast cancer can be detected through multiple tests, including a mammogram, ultrasound, MRI and biopsy. When cancer is suspected, a needle biopsy is usually administered in order to obtain a small amount of tissue from the suspicious area for analysis. The... removed cells are examined under a microscope and further tested to check for the presence of breast cancer. A biopsy is the only diagnostic procedure that can definitely determine if the suspicious area is cancerous. To learn more, please visit: https://www.nationalbreastcancer.org/breast-cancer-diagnos/

What is triple-negative breast cancer? Triple-negative breast cancer is cancer that tests negative for estrogen receptors, progesterone receptors, and excess HER2 protein. According to Breastcancer.org, about 10-20% of breast cancers are triple-negative breast cancers. These results mean the growth of the cancer is not fueled by the hormones estrogen and progesterone, or by the HER2 protein. So, triple-negative breast cancer does not respond to hormonal therapy medicines or m...edicines that target HER2 protein receptors. Still, other medicines are used to successfully treat triple-negative breast cancer. Learn more at: https://www.breastcancer.org/symptoms/diagnosis/trip_neg #BreastlinkNY #BreastCancer

Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day #BRAday Every woman fighting breast cancer deserves to know her options for reconstruction. Many women are unaware that it is a federal law that health insurers cover breast reconstructive procedures. Although reconstruction following a mastectomy or lumpectomy is not for every woman, we believe every woman should be informed of the options she is legally entitled to. #BreastlinkNY #BreastCancerReconstructionAwareness
