The first night of the BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival features an amazing lineup featuring performances by Kes the Band, Lila Downs, Junglepussy, and Madison McFerrin + Visual Artist Shantell Martin!
Brooklyn has been hit hard this year. As we dare to dream about the future, we think of the artists who have continued to create, the learners who are building ...new skills, and the activists who are changing the world. BRIC is committed to amplifying this work and building Brooklyn’s creative future together, but we need your help. Your generous gift to BRIC will help us continue to connect, create, learn, and present bold work. We are invested in Brooklyn. This is our home. You are our community. And this is our future. Announcing a new public art installation on view at our beloved Prospect Park Bandshell, "Inspired by 'What Is Left'!" This installation by Brooklyn Hi-Art! Machine, a Crown Heights-based arts collective founded by visual artists Oasa DuVerney and Mildred Beltre, comes from the 1993 Lucille Clifton (1936-2010) poem, won’t you celebrate with me. Clifton's words offer a reminder of the daily struggle for survival that Black women endure and of the work for racial equality th...at still remains to be done. Clifton’s poem along with Assata Shakur’s What is Left provide a vision of Black womanhood and motherhood. This exhibition will be on view through May 2021, and we invite you come view it from a safe distance. Presented in partnership with Prospect Park and NYC Art.
