How many ukuleles does it take to run a music program? More than 100!! Thanks to NYC council member Carlos Menchaca, BKCM's Music Partners program is bringing 13 weeks of early childhood music, recorder, songwriting and - yes - ukulele (!!!) instruction to every student at PS 24 in Sunset Park! BKCM and PS 24 faculty worked together to distribute 108 ukuleles and 115 recorders to 3rd and 4th graders at our partner site. We're looking forward to hearing some wonderful music in early June!

Suzuki Faculty & Student Women Composers Recital

Brooklyn Conservatory of Music 22.03.2021

On March 22 at 7pm, BKCM faculty and students will perform an online concert highlighting works by women composers. One of these composers is Amy Marcy Beach. Amy Beach (1867-1944) is known as the first woman to have a symphony performed by a major orchestra (her Gaelic Symphony, premiered by the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 1896). Amy was also a highly skilled pianist and actively performed prior to her marriage. Once married, her husband disapproved of her performance activities, leading Amy to compose instead. However, once her husband died, Amy continued on to have a successful performance career in addition to her career as a composer. Hear some of Amy Beach's works (along with works by Florence Price, Elisabetta De Gambarini, Vítzslava Kaprálová and more) at our upcoming concert. RSVP for free here: https://buff.ly/3cQrP9k
