I am offering a 1-2 hour Virtual Fall Kusamono Workshop this weekend. The Director of Education for the Bonsai Society of Upstate New York, John Wiessinger, has had many interesting ideas and workshops for our members including ma...king kumamono and containers. On Saturday we will be holding an all day Literati Bonsai Seminar conducted by Marc Arpag, Harvey Carapella and me. Today I was setting up the main alcove for the seminar using a Scots pine bonsai I’ve been training for 50 years in containers. The antique scroll for the autumn season (note maple leaves changing color) depicts the back end of a deer moving toward the pine tree. The accessory is an iron incense burner. Yes, it will have smoke arising during the seminar. I still have four other alcove displays to design. Do you like the wood floor or the royal purple floor covering? By the way, I also have another scroll which might need to be used because on Friday evening the temperature is forecast to be 22F with snow... See more
Next Saturday the Bonsai Society of Upstate New York is having an all day Literati Bonsai Seminar. Getting some material ready for the presentation. While looki...ng through my research library for photos I found another copy of Notes On Bonsai by Alfred Koehn written in 1952. This was one of the first bonsai books in English. He conducted classes with Yuji Yoshimura starting in 1952. See more
