These dilation pumpkins are the scariest thing I’ve seen all night. It was set up by midwives at the Royal Oldham Hospital in Lancashire, England as part of a pumpkin decorating competition.
Lovely painting in the parking garage of @ochbuffalo reminded me of the importance of collaboration. Collaboration with healthcare providers, the doula and the family is key in making the labor & delivery experience a positive one. As a team, everyone should play an active role where all voices should be heard and respected. We have some amazing and very experienced providers and L & D nurses (as well as some newer ones who bring new ideas to the table!) locally that we continue to look forward to working with!
One of my favorite things about working with families is seeing fathers interact with their babies (especially first time dads!). It’ll surprise you how some of these dads turn to mush when they see their babies after a long day at work or after returning home from a business trip out of town. I typically have long term clients which means I get to see their confidence and bond develop as the newborn stage turns to the infancy stage. Once the babies enter toddlerhood, the dads really begin to shine. It’s the most heartwarming thing to watch the relationship between a father and child grow. We hope everyone is having a great time celebrating their dads and/or the other father like figures in their lives!
Buffalo Family Doulas continues to make a commitment to our community to support, encourage and raise up voices of those who’ve been quieted & ignored for too long. We’re hoping to be able to provide education, support and resources as able to communities in need. There is an unacceptable gap in the pregnancy, birth and postpartum healthcare people of color receive throughout the country. We’ve been on a break for several months now in order to create a clearer picture of how Buffalo Family Doulas can best support our community as a whole. My personal vision for this business has always been to be a different kind of doula. One that is for the modern family. We’ve had some really great diversity amongst our clients and we’re looking forward to continuing to supporting your families in the future!
