The anatomy of the wrist joint is extremely complex, probably the most complex of all the joints in the body. The wrist is actually a collection of many bones and joints. These bones and joints let us use our hands in lots of different ways. The wrist must be extremely mobile to give our hands a full range of motion. At the same time, the wrist must provide the strength for heavy gripping. Various injuries can occur with the wrist including sprains, breaks and overuse. Arthri...tis in the wrist is also a very common ailment. When we treat patients for wrist issues, we incorporate a lot of manual therapy to maintain a full range of motion. One of the key elements we incorporate is gentle joint movements and soft tissue massage to increase that range of motion. The wrist is a very intricate structure of our body and it's extremely important to seek professional care for any issues one experiences. Loss of full functionality can certainly be at stake!

is more commonly known as a slipped disc in the mid-back area. There are sponge type cushions in between our vertebrae. These cushions are known as discs. Many people believe that the disc itself bulges out of its place from between the vertebrae. That is actually not the case. In reality, the material inside/between the disc is what squeezes out from its place. . ... ; - Weak muscles around vertebrae allow for easier injury and overall lack of vertebrae stability - Any sort of back injury can cause thoracic disc herniation. - Through various means such as injury, poor posture or simply just genetics, your vertebrae can shift and change over time. - The material inside the thoracic discs may bulge out from the cracks in the vertebrae. This can not only cause herniation but also cause the vertebrae to move out of its regular place. Thoracic Disc Herniation can be an excruciating experience. It can happen to anyone at any age however the condition mostly occurs in people who are above 40 years of age. We treat many folks from moderate to severe back pain at BURD PT. We do our very best to identify the root cause and work around patient's limitations in strengthening and mobilizing areas that affect disc herniation. Sometimes surgery is necessary and we work with our post-operative patients in the same manner! See more

The most common cause of shoulder impingement is the overuse of the shoulder. This kind of injury is very common among swimmers and throwing athletes who use their shoulders often. Impingement occurs when certain tendons of the shoulder become inflamed and rub against the bones of the shoulder. This can be extremely painful and can turn into a long-term nagging injury. One of the biggest symptoms of shoulder impingement is sharp pain in the shoulder when you move your arm bac...kwards or try to lift your hand above your shoulder. Shoulder impingement can be treated both surgically and non-surgically depending on the severity. Here at BURD PT we treat both! We have numerous patients that have come to us after shoulder surgery and we have also treated patients as an alternative to surgery. Both solutions lead to physical therapy sessions which include a lot of heat/ice to reduce swelling, various stretches to improve range of motion, and also strength exercises to assist with shoulder stability and to regain any strength lost while resting the shoulder.

Like most businesses, COVID took a lot of navigation early on to ensure that our patients still received the quality care they've come to know and expect from us. Telehealth certainly aided and allowed us to continue remote care and while we still utilize telehealth for certain patients, for those who are still coming into our clinic, we're ensuring proper PPE and sanitation measures to protect against the spread. While we would much rather see everyone's smiling faces we know that the masks are just temporary and that the health of our patients comes first!

PT treatment has specific goals mapped out when it comes to neck problems. Since there is a multitude of reasons as to why a patient may be suffering from neck problems, PT treatments have various goals. These include, but are not limited to, the following: ~Reducing the pain and level of stiffness from the neck ~Working on the range of movements of the neck ~Developing mechanisms to limit recurring neck problems... ~Enhancing the structure of the neck and the adjoining muscles While it isn’t always possible to get rid of the pain entirely or the neck problems, PT treatment can surely aid in reducing it to a large extent.
