We’ve been getting phone call after phone call for the past 5 months from singers wanting to record remotely and asking the same question....What do I need? Well, I thought we’d break down the bare necessities to get some good quality vocals happening whether your trying to record and produce things on your own or working with a recording studio remotely. Most people tend to gravitate towards the least expensive gear possible and that’s fine, though the results may not be u...p to par with what your ultimately wanting. That being said, the two most important things needed (Besides a computer which I’m assuming most of you own) are a great audio Interface and a great condenser microphone. The MOTU #M2 is a fantastic audio interface with the same converter technology used in audio interfaces costing thousands Of dollars for only $170!!! Not only does it sound incredible but it also features a wide display to show you the recording level which is super useful. It also has a loop back feature for streaming and includes Performer Lite which is an awesome DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) for both Mac and PC to get you started on multitrack recording. As to microphones, I highly recommend Warm Audio #wa47jr for only $299! This microphone is absolutely stunning and an incredible recreation of the original heard on countless records and costing thousands of dollars. With these two pieces of gear, your pretty much set. You’ll also want get some important accessories like a pop filter, XLR Cable for the Mic, a mic stand and a pair of studio headphones. This entire setup is under $500 if you dig around and you’ll be future proof with laying down your ideas, do live streaming and or work with any producer/engineer at a remote recording facility. Thought we’d share our opinion on a low cost solution for all you creators as we are living in such weird and unpredictable times on the planet and we feel it is THE most important and historical time to unleash your creativity to the world as I’m sure you all have so much to say and express and there is no better way than through music.
