We as a society have been overwhelmed with news stories and personal experiences of death and illness in the past year. Amidst all this, devastating rates of violence against trans and gender non-conforming(TGNC)communities have continued, with a disparately high impact on trans people who are Black and people of color. Stories of these brutal murders are rarely found in mainstream media. In 2020, more than 44 reported killings of TGNC people marked last year as the most ...violent on record since 2013, when Human Rights Campaign (@humanrightscampaign) began tracking these crimes. Just three months into 2021, there have been 10 reported murders of TGNC folks, half of whom were Black trans women. This does not include the people who were not openly trans or unreported deaths of misgendered trans people. CAE's mission centers safety for people who are marginalized. We are grappling with this violence against folks who are Trans, and mourning the lives lost. We urge you to join us. These are the names of TGNC folks who have been reported murdered this year: *Tyianna Alexander *Samuel Edmund Damian Valentin *Bianca Muffin Bankz *Dominique Jackson *Fifty Bandz *Alexus Braxton *Chyna Carrillo *Jeffrey JJ Bright and Jasmine Cannady (siblings. Jasmine identified as non-binary and this came out after their death) *Jenna Franks We will remember these names and continue to work towards a world where TGNC folks can be safe and more importantly, thrive
