Gioia's first day on a slide board. She'll be doing 180 inside turns before long. I am a personal trainer with 25 years of experience, an MS in exercise science, and certifications as an ACE certified Youth Fitness Specialist and NASM PES. After training adults most of my career, I am now specializing in adolescent sport performance, strength, conditioning and injury prevention or simply helping your child get in shape while enjoying the exercise. Pec Fly on Slide Board: Here is a great one while the gyms are closed. If you haven’t already, buy a pair of gliders. Amazon has so many cheap options, I like the oval shaped ones. Though I’m using a slide board, you can do this with the gliders (and furniture sliders) as well. This will work your pecs and your core, try on one leg for more core. Be sure to be careful, move slowly and start off with a slight movement. Trainer tip: try to keep forearms parallel to each o...ther as much as possible. It's tough and will work external rotators as well as pecs. Good for preventing shoulder injuries. Viarty (Virtual Remote Training) available now, go to www.camastra.com/viarty. Core Stabilization, Balancing on Physioball, Knees: this is an advanced exercise that requires a safe environment and very good core stability. First, make sure you have something stable to grab onto when you need to. Just balancing, without a twist, is the first progression. Besides just trying to balance, I focus on maintaining a pelvic tilt throughout. Be sure you are not sitting back, but your hips should stay over your knees. Once you can do that, progress to the twis...t. Notice my head pans/moves with the shoulders. This is often what beginners find difficult, awkward. I’m only twisting about 30 degrees and that is plenty with your knees being stable. I’m on a flat 75 cm physioball. A bigger ball is preferred, you will feel less like your knees are sliding off the ball (sweaty knees don’t help here). If you feel like you are squeezing the ball with your knees/inner thigh your knees are too wide and/or the ball is to0 small. A flatter ball is more unstable than firm and can be used as a progression. Though advanced, it is not tremendously stressful and is good to work in between more strenuous exercises. Promotes muscular balance at the hips and core. Trainer Tip: how the feet are positioned will give insight into foot, ankle and most likely hip imbalances. Beautiful day for a haircut. When social distancing is over she's available.
90 Degree Slide Board Split Squats: I like to work these in non-alternating, though I sometimes do alternating. Here I’ve demonstrated both. Be sure your spine is moving 90 degrees in space and your hips, shoulders, knees, ankles and feet follow the movement naturally. Watch my feet and notice my upper body posture stays vertical. This is a great move for rotational sports: baseball, MMA, boxing, etc. It will promote muscular balance through rotation and help prevent injur...ies. Add horizontal resistance or a medicine ball catch and release. I’ll look to post those as well. Because the heels move a lot, gliding discs are not recommended. Slide Board 180 Degree Inside and Outside Turns: I like to do an inside 180 turn, outside 180 turn then slide straight across to switch legs. This takes practice, but is a great cardiovascular and functional exercise. The outside turn is much more difficult for it is blind, you will not be looking where you are going. Start with inside turns and when you are comfortable try outside. Viarty (Virtual Remote Training) available now, go to www.camastra.com/viarty.
