Camp Alvernia 13.04.2021

Camp Alvernia friends, We wanted to check in with all of you to let you know we are thinking of you and we're so excited to be together again this summer. We have been overwhelmed by your support, seeing the registrations come in droves, with long waitlists for some groups/sessions. We have capped 2021 enrollment at 60% so that even if nothing changes in the state of the pandemic we can run camp this summer. We are hard at work interviewing staff and planning for the summer..., and wanted to keep you in the loop with our 2021 summer plans. Like many of you, we are grateful to see that there are COVID-19 vaccines being distributed, because it means that there is hope that things will return to normal at some point. We also know that there is no vaccine that is approved for our campers' age range. This means there's a very good chance COVID-19 will be a serious consideration for this summer. With that in mind, our goals in planning our 2021 program include: 1. Reduce the risk of COVID-19 entering our camp community. 2. Reduce the possibility of COVID-19 spread. We have been carefully examining our programs and processes to make adjustments for the new realities of the pandemic, utilizing three main guiding principles: 1. Outdoors is better than indoors. 2. Smaller groups are better than large crowds. 3. Mask-wearing and hand sanitation are proven methods to control the spread of COVID-19. We are grateful to our local public and private schools who have been successful this year in proving that children can be together in person, with basic safety protocols in place. We are encouraged but not surprised that schools are the safest place for children right now. Children thrive where there is a plan and a routine, and where adults teach and model basic respect for the health and safety of the community. It's what we strive to do here at Camp Alvernia as well, and this summer will be no different. Thank you as always for your continued support. If you haven't yet visited campalvernia.org/give to contribute $21 for January, please do so, it is much appreciated. Stay well, and hug your kids every day. God bless, Ben Esposito Director

We ended 2020 with our $21 for 2021 campaign, where we raised $601 in just one day for our Alvernia's Angels children! A burden becomes lighter when we all hold it up together, so a big thank you to everyone who contributed. We will be continuing this campaign monthly throughout 2021, and ask for all of you to donate and pledge $21 on the 21st of every month, as you are able. 100% of your donation will go towards helping our children in need be able to participate in camp th...is summer. While this past year has been difficult for all of us, it has hit some families much harder than others. Please consider contributing as you are able, to ensure our camp community will be whole this summer. We have heard the stories and struggles of these families in need, your friends and neighbors. Believe us when we say that your impact, no matter how big or small, goes a long way towards changing the dynamic in these children's lives. Thank you for choosing to be a vital part of our community. Go to https://www.campalvernia.org/give to make a donation today of $21 on the 21st of January, or choose another amount if you prefer. The link will also allow you to pledge to donate a certain amount on a future date, dedicate your donation in honor of someone, and more. And please share this post to help us reach as many potential donors as possible. Thank you as always for your love and support.

2020 has been the rollercoaster we never expected and now, more than ever, kids need camp. After what will be a year of zoom meetings, digital classrooms, and google hangouts with friends and families, what kids will need in the months to come is hope. Hope that there will be a return to some normalcy. Hope that we can play in pools, and run in fields, and hang out with friends on warm summer days. Camp Alvernia is running in 2021, but losing a year of revenue means it will ...be more difficult than ever for us to provide scholarships for local children who need it most. You have the opportunity to invest in that hope. Can you spare $21 today to help these kids have a summer at camp? Your $21 will go a long way when added to everyone else's. Donate your $21 today at campalvernia.org/give. And please, share this post to encourage others to help us provide a safe happy summer for kids who need camp now more than ever. Thank you!

Friends, we need you. This year we had a record number of children asking for help through our Alvernia's Angels program, which pairs generous families with children in our camp community who need help for the holidays. Through your generosity, we were able to find sponsors for all 45 of these kids for the holidays. I have been in tears this past week as the emails continue to come through asking to help their fellow campers. ... Our hearts are full, but we can't stop here. This year, we are asking for more. When school is out, our Alvernia's Angels recipients will also need camp, and camp costs money. As a non-profit organization, we usually give away roughly $300k worth of scholarships to children in need every summer. Canceling our 2020 summer to ensure everyone's safety meant we lost a full year of revenue, while still incurring a significant portion of our normal expenses. Like many organizations, it will take us a while to recover from the impact the pandemic has had on our finances. Please keep this in mind as you consider making a monetary donation directly towards an Alvernia's Angels camper. Thank you again for rallying behind these children. Please visit campalvernia.org/give to donate through our website. 100% of your tax deductible donation will go towards a child with the greatest need. Please like, comment, and share this post so we can get it out to everyone who wants to help. Many blessings and stay safe! #campalvernia #alverniasangels #givingtuesday

It’s a beautiful fall day, and we are dreaming about summer 2021! 2021 registration has been strong, and many groups are full for sessions 2, 3, and 4. We still have a few spots left, so don’t wait! Please note that out of an abundance of caution, we are limiting our enrollment and making other changes to ensure we will be able to run in 2021 even if nothing changes in the state of the COVID-19 pandemic. Returning families, make sure to read your emails! ... Much love, friends

With school starting and guidelines prohibiting shared materials, and many doing virtual learning and home schooling, teachers and families are struggling to get the supplies they need. We had some leftover materials from making our backyard camp boxes, and donated it to the food pantry at Northport High School. Will you consider doing the same?

One of our favorite things to do at Camp Alvernia is TIE DYE! Well guess what? We’ve got a way you can tie dye at home! Head to campalvernia.org/canteen to pick up your Tie Dye at Home box, which includes a camp tee and bandana, along with everything you need to tie dye in one of two color schemes! Add our white fabric face mask for another great tie-dye project, super useful for the start of school! The mask has our sailboat logo along with the words be kind in white scre...en print. The logo and print emerges once tie dyed for a really cool effect. Make sure to share pictures of your tie dye work and tag @campalvernia so we can see it! @ Camp Alvernia

Our power is finally back, and our tree service can finally get through to clean up our downed trees. We will be open Wednesday as normal! Thank you for your patience and flexibility. We look forward to serving you for the last few weeks of summer!

It’s been a long week with no power in the wake of Isaias, after a massive tree blocked the road, took down wires, and snapped a telephone pole in half. We are still without power, but the tree has been removed and a new pole is being installed. Stay tuned, we have another Backyard Camp box that’ll be ready soon, the Under the Sea box! Family Camp dates from this week are being rescheduled, which means we are pretty much sold out for the remainder of the season. ... We still have Campfire slots available, so don’t hesitate. Fill out the inquiry form link below to get your date before they’re gone for the season. We’d love to see you! bit.ly/FamilyAlvernia

We are thrilled with the incredible work done by Dave and his crew at Seymour's Boatyard on our 2020 waterfront project. This project will help us continue to provide top-notch waterfront programs for children, youth, and families in the community for many years to come.
