The ice fishermen are out on Lake Colby in large numbers today. With temperatures below zero the ice has settled into the lakes and ponds.

Sadly, Peter Hornbeck passed away yesterday. He was much loved by people in the paddling community. He built Hornbeck boats for almost 50 years. When we first started St Regis Canoe Outfitters in 1984 Peter sold us some of our first canoes to rent. We stopped by his shop a few years ago to visit. Peter was an amazing person. If you are looking to push the paddling season into cold weather season we recommend you go prepared. Definitely wear a life jacket, as well as appropriate shoes and gloves. Avoid wearing cotton. We offer hats, paddling gloves, neoprene shoes, life jackets and other accessories.

This female mallard was hanging out at our Saranac River boat launch this morning. Always a delight to see wildlife.
