"'God knows the plans! Those are the words that I continually spoke over myself when my kidneys failed in November 2016. I would speak those and other positive affirmations over myself for the next 3 years and 8 months while on hemodialysis. The life changing call came on Sunday, July 26, 2020. A friend from high school contacted me to inform me that her husband, also a high school friend, had a massive stroke the evening prior. He was an organ donor and her request was that ...I give her permission to have his kidneys tested as a potential match for me. I was totally in shock! To know that she was thinking of saving my life as she was also preparing to say a final goodbye to her husband was so humbling. I was contacted by the hospital on July 28 to inform me that we were a perfect match and my surgery took place on July 29. I am eternally grateful!" New Program Designed to Help those Waiting for a Kidney find a Living Donor! The Northeast Kidney Foundation is excited to announce a brand new program designed to help those waiting for a transplant find a living kidney donor. Through a partnership with the Living Kidney Donor Network, they are able to offer this online educational program that takes you through the process of finding a donor! Sessions are offered on creating your story, advocating, utilizing social media and email outreach, as well as information on donor/recipient compatibility and paired exchanges.
