We are very excited about tomorrow’s Bang on a Can Marathon which opens with a new composition by our colleague and friend Jakhongir Shukur performed by the amazing Robert Black. It is inspiring to see the results of this longtime collaboration, which began with concerts by BoAC in Uzbekistan many years ago.
This moving tribute to the late Jerzy Boyk (1941-2019), a legend of contemporary Krakow’s jazz scene, was created by Yoanna Ayers, a singer, musician and an ArtsLink International Fellow 2020. Mr. Boyk spent many years in a wheelchair. He became an idol for many people with disabilities, giving them joy and encouragement. The lyrics and visuals of the music video refer to a dreamlike world of stories and drawings by Bruno Schulz, the Polish-Jewish writer and artist who tragically died during the World War II. The animations were drawn by the young artist from Belarus, Maria Yakimovich. This project is an expression of support to the elderly and to the people with disabilities whose lives have been especially affected by the pandemic.
Watch this inspiring conversation with Belarusian curators Aleksei Borisionok and Anna Chistoserdova and Latvian curator Inga Lace highlighting the importance of resistance, self-organization and care, local and international networks, and archival practices (published at the post platform of MoMA). Anna and Inga are alumni of CEC ArtsLink programs. #ArtProspect #CecArtsLink #transnationalculturalmobility #artslinkfellows #artistnetwork

This post by Ekaterinburg artist and CEC ArtsLink project alum Tima Radya ominously and poignantly captures the situation today in Russia. Observing his recent... street art work on the day of nationwide protests in Russia, Radya wrote: It is always interesting to observe how work lives in the city, how context changes the sounds of a statement. There are unexpected, strange, stupid and funny coincidences, but this time reality surpassed all expectations. The photo shows protesters on the ice of a city pond retreating from the square surrounded by riot police. Ekaterinburg, 31 January 2021. Photo by Victoria Khaliullina. The text of Tima Radya’s work reads: Who are we, where are we from, where are we going?" See more

Dorine Mokha (1989-2021) Choreographer, dancer, author It is with immense sadness that we share the news of Dorine’s passing on January 8, 2021 in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo following a short illness. Dorine’s poignant and inspiring video letter (https://vimeo.com/500090787) was featured in the ‘Letters from the Continent’ film produced by Studios Kabako that we streamed online as part of the ArtsLink Assembly 2020 in November. The subsequent livestreamed conve...rsation with colleagues showed his calm, reflective and resolute approach to his work and his life, particularly in the current pandemic context. Dorine created dance, theater and music, wrote for magazines and catalogs, and was very active in supporting and advocating for his community. Virginie Dupray of Studios Kabako posted a letter to Dorine this weekend which she concluded: There was this energy, this intense appetite for words, sounds, images, films, meetings, recognition, but also your unwavering support to other fellow travelers, poets, acrobats, your generosity, your extreme delicacy. Dorine, in your last message two days ago, there were still so many projects, meetings, directions... I'll let you browse them alone, you will tell me ... "The future isn’t the crisis. The crisis is what we have just come from", said Peter Sellars at the ArtsLink Assembly 2020: Radical Hospitality. This convening featured 60 artists and cultural leaders exploring what is possible in this extraordinary moment in our history with a pandemic, over 1 billion people displaced, and increasing geo-political tensions that strike at the very heart of our global community. The artists showed what openness, curiosity, and radical hospit...ality can achieve, when there is real care about connecting with and supporting each other. We are heartened that over 2,000 viewers joined us live for the ArtsLink Assembly from 38 countries and across 36 US states. If you didn’t have a chance to tune in for livestreams, you can watch the insightful, nuanced and deeply humane conversations on our website https://bit.ly/2KpeVor.
