It's that time of year again! Hope you can join us, please help spread the word. Fun events and nice people every year.
Second annual Cedar Swamp Historical Society Jack O Lantern carving party was a lot of fun, and slowly but surely growing! Special thank you to Rottkamp's Farmstand, Inc. for the great pumpkins, my Locust Valley Reformed Church for hosting, and to the families who joined us. Happy Halloween all!
Christmas in July! Pleased to say our very generous gift giving at our last annual Cedar Swamp Historical Society Hessian Christmas ceremony, caroling & party used for "Christmas in July" at the Ronald McDonald House tonight! Thank you to everyone who supports us, our events, and our important behind the scenes efforts, which include historic preservation, land conservation, and archival projects. This our supportive trustees, our growing sponsors, and the general public. I'...ve made some good friends from these efforts, really adds to the satisfaction. There is so much more to be done. We have the vision, the experience, the tools, and the will. If you can chip in as a volunteer, in any capacity and time, we'd love to hear from you. Merry July heat wave Christmas!
TOB Landmark Commission hearing tonight, 7p.m. We will be there, and will provide a report and weigh-in on this matter. Please try to attend, and please share. https://libn.com//09/18/hotel-pitched-at-milleridge-inn-s/
Our third annual Revolutionary War ceremony, Christmas tree lighting, caroling and party were a lot of fun, and another good gift showing for the Matthew Fetzer Foundation. Thank you to everyone who helped & participated, really nice group of people. Lots more to come!
Join us for our 3rd annual Revolutionary War Christmas ceremony, tree lightings, caroling & party, Saturday, December 8th: From 4-5 p.m. we light the Christmas tree we planted 2 years ago at the graves of Hessian soldiers in historic East Hillside Cemetery, Old Brookville. These were Mercenaries with the British Army during the Revolutionary War & occupying Long Island for 7 years. German immigrants, including Hessians, who made up a third of the British Army, are credited by... some with bringing the Christmas tree tradition to our shores. We also lay wreaths at the graves of Patriot soldiers, also in cemetery & nearby. Hot mulled cider served. From 5-6 p.m. we have another Christmas tree lighting & caroling at the Locust Valley Reformed Church, hot mulled cider served. Then we go inside for a Christmas party from 6-11 p.m. If want to eat our catered dinner is $35 PP, RSVP me ASAP (5169960763). Otherwise, come by for some dessert and Christmas cheer.
Rottkamp Farm, McCouns Lane, Old Brookville, closes for the season on Wednesday. Stop in & get some Thanksgiving supplies, meet real farmers & the nicest people, & support this gem of an operation. And bring your camera.
The historic Ardsley Curling Club Curling Club, established 1935, Ardsley, Westchester, N.Y. Terrific facilities & history. Our North Shore area needs this. More specifically, a winter sports complex, consisting of indoor & outdoor curling & skating ice, groomed cross country ski trails & sledding hills. Let's get on this!
Happy Halloween from the beautiful, historic Cedar Swamp region, bedazzled in Fall colors tonight, & where... Upon that night, when fairies light/on Cassilis Downans dance Or over the lays, in splendid blaze/on sprightly horses prance... Or for Colean the route is taken/beneath the moon's pale beams There, up the cove, to stray & rove/among the rocks & streams To sport that night. Robert Burns, Halloween, 1785, Scotland
One day left to carve your Jack-O-Lanterns!
Great party last night! Thank you to our hardworking volunteers, Ryan Fletcher Breaking Bread's delicious catered dinner, DJ Mike's terrific spinning, & to the creative, fun people who came out & had a fun evening! More pics to follow.

The important job of Jack-o-Lantern pumpkin picking...our volunteers & I have worked very hard preparing for our first annual Halloween party. Please try to join us & help spread the word. Halloween is an important part of our heritage, and we're so grateful that pumpkin's & other Fall harvests are still locally available, like these from Rottkamp & Youngs farms.
