Sometimes, you get an interview request you just can't say no to! Here's a snippet of the Q&A we did with a local middle schooler who asked some great questions! Where are you from? Hello! I’m @corinnawilliams and I co-founded Celsious with my sister @thetheresawilliams. We grew up in a small town close to Munich in Germany. Our mom grew up in the same town and our dad is from Atlanta, Georgia. They met while our dad was serving in the U.S. Army in Germany.... What inspired you to open the business? If a product or service you want doesn’t exist, sometimes you just have to create it! This is how a lot of businesses start, including Celsious. I wanted a different laundromat experience, so in my free time, I dreamt up my version of the perfect laundromat. I thought Theresa would be a great person to design it, so I shared my idea with her. She moved from London to help me, and after several years of planning and building, we opened Celsious in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. What challenges have you faced? You might find that in the beginning, people react negatively to your idea because they can’t envision it. You can’t let that discourage you! Being innovative means that you’re doing things differently, and not everyone will understand. Heads up! We'll be closed on Election Day (Tuesday, Nov 3rd) so that our team can vote in person if that's their preferred method. We should all be able to exercise voting rights without having to worry about whether a line is moving at a snail's pace or trying to make it to a scheduled shift on time. We've welcomed a lot of first-timers at the 'mat lately! Like many neighborhoods in New York, there's a shift happening in Williamsburg people moving out, and newcomers moving in. It's bittersweet to say goodbye to some of our regulars, but we're happy to meet our new neighbors and build new relationships. New Yorkers have been through a lot this year, but we're used to doing what we need to do in order to get by. Our willingness to adapt to new spaces, new habits, and n...ew normals is proof of this resilience. And we know we're not alone in this! With cooler temps setting in, we've been pulling out cozy items and noticing buttons that need to be reinforced, sweaters that need pills removed, and bedding that needs to be freshened up after being in storage. Giving our garments and bedding TLC in between seasons requires a bit of time, but it's actually a ritual we look forward to! It's so satisfying to see our clothes in tip-top shape, and be reminded of the places we've been and the things we've done while wearing... them. Plus, we know that we'll be able to rock them for *many* years to come. How about you? SOME REMINDERS: Please register to vote, or check your voter registration status if you've recently moved (due to the pandemic, etc.) Make sure your friends/family/circles are all set with their registration; offer assistance if anyone needs it.... If you plan to vote by mail, request your mail-in ballot as early as possible and return it well in advance of your state’s deadline. USPS recommends a two-week period, but you should make sure your ballot has more than enough travel time. Early in-person voting is also available for a number of states. Check your state if that's an option you'd like to explore. Consider becoming a poll worker! Many older poll workers are finding conditions too risky to work this year due to the threat of COVID. If you're in good health, consider stepping in for the older generation (and learn how to fill their shoes!). Voting is a right and a privilege, and we should exercise that right *always*. Carefully consider the candidates and what they are proposing for YOUR future. Then, make a decision and make it count. You matter. Your voice matters.
