March 1st is Independence Movement Day in Korea, known as (Sam-il-jeol), a day to commemorate the March 1st Movement. Starting on this day in 1919, a series... of demonstrations for Korean national independence from Japan began. Nam Sang-rak (1892-1943), a fighter for national independence, made this Taegeukgi with his wife in order to participate in the Korean independence movement as of April 4, 1919. This rare Taegeukgi was produced entirely by hand-stitching. Image and text courtesy of: Cultural Heritage Administration http://www.heritage.go.kr/heri/cul/culSelectDetail.do
