Center Moriches FD Holiday Parade of Lights Convoy Good morning Center Moriches !! Tonight’s the night we have all been waiting for. The Center Moriches Fire Department will be hosting the Annual Holiday Parade of Lights Convoy starting at 6pm. While the weather looks gloomy right now, Santa has promised that by this afternoon things will clear up and he is ready to spread the holiday cheer and the magic of Christmas to all the girls and boys of Center Moriches. ... The Holiday Parade of Lights is a timeless family tradition and the unofficial start to the holiday season when firefighters escort Santa Claus into town ! This year due to COVID-19 restrictions and concerns, the Center Moriches Fire Department will not be hosting a traditional Holiday Parade of Lights down Main Street. This year’s Parade of Lights will be a Holiday Parade of Lights Convoy Rather than having the community gather along Main Street to watch the parade we will bring the parade to the community, keeping everyone safe and sound in their homes. The Holiday Parade of Lights will be a scaled-down parade from those in the past and will follow a pre-determined route throughout Center Moriches. If your street is not on the parade route, you can safely watch the parade from your vehicle by going to a street near your home. Please remember to park far enough off the side of the road to allow our emergency vehicles guide Santa along his way. You will be able to follow Santa progress live on any smartphone or computer during the parade thanks to Santa's GPS Tracker as he is escorted by Center Moriches Firefighters around the community. A link to the Santa tracker will be posted for everyone at 5:45pm During the parade there will be sporadic road closures as Firefighters safely escort Santa around town. If you happen to get stuck at one of these temporary road closures, please be patient it will only be for a few minutes. Once the parade starts, Santa will not be making any stops along the parade route. Experience the wonder, joy and magic of the Center Moriches Fire Department Holiday Parade of Lights while staying safe and healthy at your home. If you have an emergency, please remember to dial 911. Our emergency vehicles will always have full access to any area of town. If you have any questions or need any additional information, please e-mail [email protected] Please remember to stay safe tonight and follow all CDC guidelines regarding face coverings and social distancing. Help us get the word out and SHARE this with all your friends !

CM Firefighters remind you to Change Your Clock..... Change Your Battery Sunday November 1, 2020 is the end of Daylight Savings Time. The Center Moriches Fire Department wants to remind residents to make another change that could save their lives, changing the batteries in their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. Changing smoke alarm and carbon monoxide batteries at least twice per year is one of the simplest, most effective ways to reduce these tragic deaths and inj...uries. In fact, working smoke alarms nearly cut in half the risk of dying in a home fire. Additionally, the Center Moriches Fire Chiefs recommends replacing your smoke alarms every 10 years. If you have recently purchased one of the new 10-year battery life smoke detector or carbon monoxide alarm take this time to test your detectors to make sure they are functioning properly. A working smoke alarm or carbon monoxide alarm can give your family the extra seconds you need to get out of a home fire safely.

Congressman Zeldin visits Center Moriches Fire Department This afternoon Congressman Lee Zeldin visited the Center Moriches Fire Department to meet with Firefighters and EMS providers. Congressman Zeldin helped to secure two federal grants for the Center Moriches Fire District.... The first grant totaling $191,609.52 was used to purchase a total of 36 state-of-the-art self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) air packs for firefighters, replacing their outdated equipment. The new SCBAs will offer a wide array of advanced safety features to increase the safety and well-being of firefighters. The 36 new units will include new face masks, an air cylinder, spare backpacks and one spare cylinders for each firefighter. The second grant awarded was a regional grant totaling $446,818.18, and will be shared between the Center Moriches FD, Mastic Beach and Brookhaven fire departments to upgrade emergency communications equipment. Most of the existing radio equipment used by the three agencies are fifteen to twenty years old and do not meet current industry standards and necessary capabilities. The funding will be used to replace outdated, mobile and portable radio equipment with new radio equipment that will improve response capabilities and interoperability during emergency calls. The federal funding is being awarded through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program. The Assistance to Firefighters Grant helps fire departments, emergency medical service organizations, and other first responders receive the necessary equipment, vehicles, training, and other resources needed to ensure public safety.

October 28, has been dedicated as National First Responders Day. Today we recognize the heroic men and women who make it their business to take immediate action when disaster strikes. Firefighters, police, paramedics, and EMT’s often put their lives and safety second when it comes to an emergency. We should all be grateful that these community members can continue to be counted on when we need them the most!

In a fire, seconds count. Seconds can mean the difference between residents of our community escaping safely from a fire or having their lives end in tragedy. Practice your home fire drill twice a year. Conduct one at night and one during the day with everyone in your home, and practice using different ways out. Teach children how to escape on their own in case you can’t help them. Make sure the number of your home is clearly marked and easy for the fire department to f...ind. Close doors behind you as you leave this may slow the spread of smoke, heat, and fire. Once you get outside, stay outside. Never go back inside a burning building. See more
