JUNE ACT UPDATE: ACT will notify students the week of May 26th if their testing center will be canceling the June ACT. Anyone whose sites are canceled may move to the July test date without a fee. We encourage our students to consider registering for the July test if testing sites are open rather than waiting until the fall. To everyone registered or planning to register for the June 6th SAT and SAT Subject Tests: Collegeboard has announced that these tests are now cancelled. An added test date is planned for September, so there will be SAT and SAT Subject Tests administered each month from August - December 2020. In the unlikely event that schools cannot reopen in the fall, Collegeboard will move to online administrations of tests.... As of now, the June 13th ACT is still moving forward as scheduled. To Test or Not To Test? Is there even a testing option available? Which colleges are still looking at testing for admissions in the next year? These are some of the many questions on the minds of our parents and students right now, especially while getting ready to apply for colleges. We'd like to offer some guidance to help navigate amidst this crisis.... Question: Are tests available? Answer: Collegeboard is working to modify their tests to be administered online.APs will be available to take online starting in mid-May.No formal announcement has been made on ACTs, SATs, or SAT Subject Tests as of yet. However, since the SAT is also written by Collegeboard, it is likely there will be an option to test in June as previously scheduled, be it online or in-person. The ACT will take its cues from Collegeboard, so we expect a June administration for that test as well. Answer: Yes. Many colleges and universities have announced a 1-year test optional accommodation for the class of 2021, and some elite schools, such as Brown, are already test optional. However, our admissions experience and close work with some of the nation’s most well-regarded college counselors informs us that standardized test results remain a critical component of a student’s application. Testing is used to help narrow the pool of applicants to a manageable number to be carefully evaluated by admissions teams - even at Test Optional Schools. If you are considering applying to Test Optional Schools, consider asking the admissions department what percentage of admitted students do not submit standardized test scores in their applications.
