The station received a report of a helicopter crash near Jones Inlet this afternoon just after 1600. Our crew rapidly deployed the Response Boat - Medium and was on scene near Meadow Island north of Point Lookout within ten minutes. Also responding were our partners from Nassau County Marine Bureau, Merrick Fire Department, Wantagh Fire Department and Oyster Bay Constables as well as a good Samaritan on their private boat. The pilot sustained only minor injuries and was able to be assisted onto Merrick Fire Department's vessel and transferred to awaiting EMS at the station. The Coast Guard is currently searching for a 52 year old male last seen departing Twomey's Tavern in Amityville on a black jetski wearing a scuba costume at approximately 8:30 pm last night. The jetski was discovered in Copiague this morning with no one on board and no kill switch lanyard. Anyone with information please contact Coast Guard Stations Jones Beach or Fire Island. Over the last two days, Station Jones Beach’s crew visited the range to requalify on our weapons. Semi annual rams training makes sure that our personnel are proficient with the pistol, rifle, and shotgun. #rangeday #pewpew #aimsmallmisssmall U.S. Coast Guard Tri-State U.S. Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound... Station Jones Beach's crew works as a team to respond to marine incidents in our area of responsibility. BM3 Saunders, FN Holthaus, and SN Cale work together here to monitor as our boat crew prepares to get underway to respond to an aground vessel that's been unable to maintain sufficient communications with the Coast Guard and which had no life jackets on board. Today we said goodbye to SN Cirenza who departs soon for ET "A" school. On a happier note, we also recognized SN Wagner for earning his certification as our newest boarding team member and BM3 Saunders and BM3 Feldman who earned certification as boat crew members in the RB-M and RBS-II. #trainmaintainoperate #BravoZulu #fairwindsandfollowingseas U.S. Coast Guard Northeast U.S. Coast Guard Tri-State U.S. Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound

Yesterday Station Jones Beach's crew participated in the 2020 Nate Bruckenthal Annual softball tournament and trounced Coast Guard Station Fire Island 7-0. Don't worry about what happened after that. Our crew responded to a 45’ fishing boat that was disabled and adrift with one person on board 17 miles offshore. Due to the distance offshore and concerns about the potential for the conditions to worsen, our 45’ RB-M took the trip out to make sure nothing happened to this unlucky fisherman. The vessel was moored at the nearest safe haven after the four hour mission. Bravo Zulu to our great response crew! Looking forward to a beautiful Labor Day weekend at Station Jones Beach! Currently, the forecast is pretty clear and temperatures look like it'll be a great boating weekend! Remember, forecasts and weather can change so be safe out there. We tend to see more crowded boats on holiday weekends, so make sure there's an appropriately sized life jacket for everyone on board! Better yet, #wearit! Download the USCG's app for required safety gear tailored to your boat! U.S. Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound U.S. Coast Guard Tri-State U.S. Coast Guard Northeast
