Luis you’re an angel @latourcalineny #Repost @friendswithfourpaws with @make_repost Long Post Alert! ... On Saturday evening, we picked up an owner surrender. His owner had passed, he was handed to another family member and after five weeks- they said he was a biter- could we get him ASAP? We knew he was a mess but no photo can capture the neglect and abuse this dog suffered. It took an angel groomer and three assistants over three hours to sob, gag on the odor, clip, shave and bathe this dog. In the end, what was cut off this dog- mats the size of legs, outgrown and broken nails, rotted food and feces- weighed more than the dog itself. Our anger is only outweighed by our gratitude- that this dog is safe and clean and somehow- happy. He will be vetted and cared for and when he is ready- we will find him the perfect forever. He will know NOTHING but love from here on out. We are calling him Phoenix. This is why we do what we do. Rescue is sometimes puppies and cuddles and cuteness but rescue is also sometimes horrifying and devastating and so, so sad. Our boundless gratitude goes out to Luis at @latourcalineny at @chateaulewoof ; Phoenix’s foster, @seniorprofile; to @jennwehrung, @ninuckel & Ricardo for picking up Phoenix and literally holding him through this transition; to our Team (especially @everybodypups) who sprung into action to make sure there was a plan for him as soon as we got the call and to YOU. It is your support and generosity that allows us to do this work that we love, even on the hardest days. We literally could not do it without you. Phoenix will still need vet care so if you are able, every little bit counts. About 1/2 way thru the torturous grooming, Phoenix wagged the tail that we could finally see give your tail waggers a huge hug from us and from Phoenix (and the others like him just waiting for the chance to rise.) #rescuelife #adoptdontshop #love #whywedoit #fosteringsaveslives

Indigenous People Day Special Coriander Cocoa Latte Columbus is credited to be the first to have encountered the cocoa bean upon his arrival to the Americas in 1492. Between the years of 1502 and 1504 during Columbus’ fourth voyage from the Americas’, Columbus is also credited with the one to have brought Cacao beans back with him to Europe. It is thought that he has stumbled onto a canoe full of a variety of foods and upon his findings, the cacao seeds were one of many ...things that he brought back to Europe. In fact, the indigenous people of the American land mass had used the cacao bean for hundreds of years prior. Depending on the region of the Americas, certain indigenous groups have documented their use of the cacao between 1500 and 300 BC and 1351 AD. It is thought to believe that the Olmec tribe was growing trees from the cacao beans. However, the Mayans were possibly the only tribe of the Americas to conduct a cacao plantation as early as 600 BC. Other researchers note that the cacao trees were growing thousands of years before its production from humans. The cacao bean held great importance within the community of the indigenous people. The beans were commonly used as a form of currency to buy other man made products, animals, and plants. Often times, when a woman was to be wed, the admirer would offer the woman’s family cacao beans in exchange for her hand in marriage. #factcheck #indiginouspeoplesday #respect #whowasherefirst
