Checkered Egg Acres

Who’s interested in a half pig? Checkered Egg Acres will be harvesting six next week, Thursday, August 6. The cost is approximately $335.00 for a half hog. That’s calculated based on an estimated 95 lbs, at 3.00 per pound, hanging weight, which comes to $285.00 plus the butchering fee of approximately $50.00. It is expected that a 95 lb half pig will yield approximately 75 lbs of meat, including a variety of bacon, hams, ribs, pork shoulder, chops, loin, and sausage (this comes to less than $4.50/lb). Our piggies are happy and healthy, home-grown and hormone-free. If you’re interested in a half or even a quarter (or find a friend to split it!) please comment below or send us a private message. If you want to say hello to our ducks and geese, you’ll have to pay a visit to our friend Joy at the Barrington Holistic Healing Spa. When our pond didn’t fill in the way we expected, we needed to make another plan, and these babies are so happy that we did.

I ran out of mayonnaise today, while making pasta salad. My favorite helper, Jack, picked an egg with a nice, double yolk, and I made some from scratch. Comment below for the recipe, or to order a dozen pasture-raised eggs of your own.
