This indenture, on parchment, dated December 12, 1769 documents the sale from James Nesbit to Michel Guillaume Jean Hector St. John de Cre´vecoeur, of 120 acres upon which Hector St. John de Cre´vecoeur would settle with his family and call it "Pine Hill." Tragedy befell his family during the American Revolution. Following the Revolution, he returned as French consul for New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. St. John de Cre´vecoeur was a renowned author of "Letters from an Am...erican Farmer," "Sketches of Eighteenth Century America: More 'Letters from an American Farmer,'" Echoes On Trip to New Windsor," "Travels in Upper Pennsylvania and New York State," and more.
