COVID Update I was told by a family member or friend that I was exposed to COVID-19. Now what do I do? This is a question that the on call nurses have been re...ceiving frequently in the past couple days. Please do not call the on call nurse. The department is very busy following up on positive cases. If you have recently been exposed to COVID-19. You should know the following things: Stay at home. Quarantine yourself. Do not go to work. If you are not having symptoms you should not rush to get a test. Testing too early after exposure can give you negative results. Even if you test negative you still need to quarantine. Having a negative test in the first 10 days after exposure does NOT get you out of quarantine. If the positive person you were exposed to resides in NYS and identifies you as a contact, you will be notified by a NYS contact tracer or the local department of Health. This process may take up to 7 days. While you are waiting for a call you should remain home on quarantine. If the positive person you were exposed to resides outside of NYS and you need quarantine paperwork to remain out of work you can contact your local department of health during normal business hours. If you become symptomatic you should contact your primary care provider and get tested. The most important thing to remember is to stay home and limit your contact to others if you have been exposed to COVID or you are having symptoms. City of Oneonta Receives NYCOM Local Government Achievement Award The New York State Conference of Mayors (NYCOM) has selected the City of Oneonta as a winner of NYCOM’s Local Government Achievement Award for 2020. The awards program, in its 33rd year, recognized Oneonta for its Survive Then Thrive Program. In commenting on the award, NYCOM President Rich David, Mayor of the City of Binghamton, stated: I want to commend the City of Oneonta for this excellent program. This aw...ard recognizes that local officials are continuing to work diligently to improve their communities and the quality-of-life for their residents in efficient and innovative ways. The Survive Then Thrive Program will benefit the City of Oneonta for years to come. Congratulations to Mayor Herzig on a job well done. Mayor Herzig states: I could not be more proud of all those who contributed to the success of our Survive, then Thrive initiative. The City of Oneonta was selected for this award by the New York Conference of Mayors as a state-wide example of what communities can accomplish during these difficult times. One more reason why Oneonta is a special community. The Survive Then Thrive Program promotes online sales and provides direct support to the City’s small businesses (‘Survive’), while developing a longer-term plan to provide additional assistance along with a marketing strategy to encourage more people to live and work in the City of Oneonta (‘Thrive’). The program has also identified weaknesses, such as housing and internet connections, that will be addressed to the benefit of all residents in the City. The other winners of NYCOM’s Local Government Achievement Award for 2020 are: the Village of Briarcliff Manor, the Village of Naples and the City of Fulton. NYCOM represents 574 cities and villages in New York State and has been in existence since 1910.
