Today's item from the archives: part of the first haircut photo collection! Al Criscillo, a barber in Williamsburgh for over 5 decades, offered parents a free photo of their child's first haircut. His photos, preserved in the City Reliquary's collection, show a changing community in an unchanging institution. Keep on preserving: cityreliquary.org/join or link in bio Testimonial from Patrick O.: "A belief in this priceless community forum that always inspires dialogue and wonder on a wide variety of subjects."

Howdy from the City Reliquary! There's less than a month left in our push to generate enough sustainable funding to allow the City Reliquary to reopen to the public! cityreliquary.org/join or link in bio. Photo: one of the many vintage postcards featuring the Statue of Liberty, the secular saint of the New York harbor and subject of our largest collection. Testimonial from Jacob F.: "One of the few places still infusing New York City with serious quirk. Please keep it alive."

Did you know that the City Reliquary played a crucial role in a Guinness World Record? In 2005, volunteers at a City Reliquary event, documented by the NY Times, counted the restaurant menus in Harley Spiller's vast collection, certifying the total of over 5,000 for Guinness! Harley's love of oddball collections has led to many collaborations with the City Reliquary over the years - you can read more about them in this week's message: https://mailchi.mp/cityreliquary/cn0520_gen-9452208

What's the connection between Rodin and the City Reliquary? It runs through our Resident Geologist Emeritus Nik Sokol. Nik's great-grandfather, Josef Kratina, was Rodin's lead apprentice prior to emigrating to NYC in 1907. Kratina's sculpture studio was at 81 Prospect Place in Brooklyn, and there he worked on the bust of Teddy Roosevelt that is usually on view in the City Reliquary's back gallery (along with a photo of Kratina in all his mustachioed glory). Nik talks more about his family and love for the City Reliquary in this week's message, which you can read in full here: https://mailchi.mp/cityreliquary/cn0520_gen-9439616
