A happy ending to a story that could have ended tragically. We've learned it on a much lesser scale -- when you get back in snowy woods, everything and nothing looks like it could be a trail.

All, As the CMG Group and the Wing Assistant Director of Cadet Programs. I would like to thank everyone that played a role this weekend in making Civil Air Pat...rol visible at the New York Air Show. Thank you to NY-030 who is the local Cadet CAP unit on Stewart ANG for helping setup on Friday and on Saturday when I heard things had to be shifted due to losing space. I want to thank all the Groups in the Wing that had thier Cadets and Seniors show up to work and support the Air Show, we couldn’t possibly support this event without your help and dedication. I would definitely like to give a Huge THANK YOU to Maj Susan Neal for putting together the Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony for the mother (Irma Estis) of one of my former Senior Member when I was Sq CC (1st Lt Jon Estis). What an AMAZING opportunity to recognize a former Civil Air Patrol Cadet who served in the Cadet Corps during WWI II at an Air Show with over 150,000 spectators attending. Thank you Maj Neal for going above and beyond. Finally, I would like to thank those that worked the recruiting tent, as a former Air Force recruiter this is a prime event to get the word out about the best keep secret known as Civil Air Patrol and Capt Kamal, 2 Lt Flynn, 1st Lt Mason did an AMAZING job manning our recruiting tent. They got 62 leads that are interested in learning more about our program from all different parts of the State, and already have a few contact that would like to attend a meeting to learn more about Civil Air Patrol and the Cadet Programs, I believe we even got some private pilots that are interested. I apologize that I could not be there fully this weekend, but I had to give most of my attention to my JROTC cadets who were manning the concession stands as a fundraiser for our unit. I would also like to thank NY-030 Squadron for helping us man one of the booth as well helping us reach our goal of 58 cadets. On behalf of the Wing Cadet Programs team thank you all for your hard work and dedication this weekend, see you next year. Very Respectfully, Capt Christian Granda NYW Assistant Director of CP CMG CP Officer

On Saturday U.S. Representative Sean Patrick Maloney presented 89 year-old Irma Turner Estis with the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest honor a civilian can... earn for her Civil Air Patrol Service during WWII. During the war, Mrs. Turner Estis joined CAP at age 14 and served from 1943-1945, before moving to Newburgh, where she worked as a physical education teacher for decades. During the war, CAP trained civilian high school students to assist official military activities and protect America’s skies and coastal areas. Over 200,000 civilians joined CAP during the war. CAP cadets protected America’s coasts from German U-boats and escorted thousands of American convoys carrying troops and supplies to Europe. Irma’s son and grandson both serve in CAP and will be in attendance for the ceremony.
