Canine Guardians are those who have committed to service above self and to truly support those who have served, Canine Guardians take on the responsibility of raising and training our puppies selected to become service dogs for a period of up to 18 months. Shown below is one of our dedicated Canine Guardians, Ryan Williams. Bolen, one of our service dogs in training, lived with Ryan for 6 months and was taught the many skills necessary to progress in his training. We are fore...ver grateful to Ryan and all of the volunteers that support our programs and services. Also shown in this photo is Frenchy, a 17 month old Yellow Labrador, whom many of you may be familiar with. Frenchy is transitioning into what we call a career change. This simply means that Frenchy is no longer being considered for placement as a service dog. The reality is that not every dog is meant to be a service dog, and that is not something we can determine for them. Ultimately it is the dog that shows us whether or not a service dog career is right for them. Moving forward, we are proud to announce that Frenchy is being adopted by Ryan, and will continue his life as a trained companion animal. We will stay actively engaged with Ryan and Frenchy and are proud to say that this has been a successful placement and transition. Canine Guardians will always be considered as our priority option for adopting career change dogs. Alex Behm, CPV Exectutive Director, joined Anne-Marie Mancilla, Director of the Onondaga County Veterans Service Agency on Wednesday in attending the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the renovated chapel at the Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Members of the Onondaga County Executive's Veterans Advisory board were joined by County Executive J. Ryan McMahon, and and other local military and Veteran representatives for the ceremony.
