Congratulations to Jake Koch on passing the bar exam. After working with you for over 5 years and watching you grow, it gives us added pleasure to be able to say welcome to the club!

The power of questions and the three I ask myself every day... I've always preferred being the listener when I find myself in group situations. Maybe you're lik...e me and hate being the center of attention, and if so, you can probably relate to this. If I can keep a conversation going without sharing my opinions or telling my own story, I'll do it 99% of the time. So, as a result, I've ended up becoming pretty damn good at asking questions. A good question is deceivingly powerful. They can make the shiest person in the room light up, or your overly opinionated co-worker shut up. I've recently discovered the power of asking questions to myself and have made it a daily practice. I ask three main questions, and I feel like they have had a significant impact on the way I approach our business. 1. What good can I create for my clients today? By starting my day with this question, I can focus on what's most important for long-term success. Only doing the work to satisfy your responsibility to any given client doesn't generate the kind of loyalty that makes people want to go out and sell your service to their network. After asking this question, we'll typically write down a few actionable items that come to mind and inject them into our daily schedule. 2. What can I learn today? For me, the excitement of learning new things is the driving force behind this business. By asking myself what I can or want to learn today, I can commit to one or two concepts. Otherwise, I'm sure to find myself in a rabbit hole of "what ifs" and a checklist with a handful of uncompleted tasks. 3. What is the most important thing I could do today to help grow our business? Similar to the previous question, by asking this, I can seek to find the game-changing actions and avoid getting bogged down by the entire list of EVERYTHING I could do. Also, by approaching business development from a curious standpoint, I uncover ideas buried deep in my subconscious mind. Usually, this is where the juiciest ideas reveal themselves. Interested in starting a conversation about your project? Awesome! I'll bring my questions, and you get your ideas ready. You can e-mail me at [email protected]

Meet our associate, Ben Goes! Ben is a Capital Region native. He grew up in Guilderland, NY and attended school at SUNY Albany and Albany Law School. At the office, Ben primarily assists with complex financing transactions involving historic tax credits, limited partnership investment funds, and CMBS loans. However, he also handles simpler real estate acquisitions and financings, and oversees the firm’s entity formation and maintenance practice. When he’s not in the office, Ben serves as a member of the Guilderland Board of Education and studies economics and personal finance in his free time!
