Brandon Martinez Gonzalez '16CC, who grew up in Texas as an undocumented Mexican immigrant, was denied US residency after is acceptance to Columbia College. Thanks to the support from the University and the Columbia Alumni Association of San Antonio, he felt the power of the Columbia community before he set foot on campus. The Columbia alumni club in San Antonio, Brandon's hometown, found out about his problem at the border. They called him to check in, and the club’s support moved Brandon. I wasn’t even a student yet. With Golden Globe nominations for Unorthodox, created and written by Anna Winger '93CC, and Nomadland, based on the book by Jessica Bruder '04JRN, hopes are high that two more alumni-affiliated productions will join the list of Columbia winners.

Today marks the 80th anniversary of WKCR-FM's first radio broadcast. Back in 1941, the station was known as CURC, for Columbia University Radio Club. Following World War II, the FCC set protocols for radio stations, and CURC adopted WKCR, for King's Crown Radio, as its call letters. : Columbia University Archives

Columbia Law School's Center for Chinese Legal Studies will be named in honor of the school’s first Chinese graduate, Hong Yen Chang, who graduated in 1886 and later became the first Chinese American to be admitted as a lawyer in the United States.
